One feature he did not mention ,perhaps his brother failed to tell him, is the increase in volume you get from your main speakers when you use the active sub woofer to process the incoming signals from the mixer and send only the mid and highs to your main speakers! Because these main speakers do not have to handel the bass signals they have more volume output! And trust me its nice to have that extra voluume! Also with a good crossover in the sub or subs the bass should not be a problem regarding volume or muddy bass! But having said this i think this is a excellent video tutor!

Great break down. I just recently got a pre amp Behringer mixer. The pa speakers do good on my DJ controller which is a numark ns7 but It seemed that my bass cabinets wasn’t getting a strong signal. I would hook up the pa speakers to master and the bass cabinet to booth. But on either one the I had to turn up the volume all the way for the bass cabinet and it did decent but wasn’t full potential that it could be. So that’s why I got a pre amp mixer. Also the mono advice was great I never thought of that but makes sense. But good video very helpful advice

Great job on this! I’ve been trying to figure out how to do this to my DJ set but couldn’t put it to words. Glad I came across your video, I understood clearly how it works with your channel mixer in this video. Do you know if this works the same for Yamaha 10channel mixer? I’m glad this video helped! I own the Yamaha MG06fx and it does not have a separate “out” designated because they wanted to keep it smaller and compact. The Yamaha 10 channel mixer has an option to use your “FX Send” as a separate “Out” for your subs. But if you were to use any effects such as reverb or anything, I don’t think it would work that well. On the Yamaha 10 channel, you also have the option to run an “Out” on your monitor out line located at the top right as well. I originally looked into getting the Yamaha 10 but I decided to get the Allen & Heath because of the extra “Outputs” that it had.

One reason that people don't use aux fed subs for small setups like this is because now you've lost the high pass filter for your top speakers. Meaning, your 12" speakers are still trying to produce frequencies below 80-120Hz. This will produce a more muddy sound overall since all speakers are trying to produce all frequencies. Aux fed subs make sense in large clubs, stadiums, & festivals. Once you're using a digital mixer it makes sense because you can EQ/HighPass/Low Pass all of the outputs to get the best result possible. For your setup with a small analogue mixer - you would get a cleaner sound and better frequency separation by using the built in crossover in your subwoofer.
@DJ-BRY
Жыл бұрын
You do have a point. For my setup, my EV tops and subs have crossover points that I can set them to. Most popular brands such as EV, QSC, Mackie, RCF, etc allow you to set crossover points. I do understand if the speakers are older or are entry level that they may not have crossover points. In that situation, you just need to do what’s best for your setup to give the overall best sound for your event. Good comment!

Correct. Your subwoofer should have a crossover to make sure it only plays the lower frequencies. I don’t know if a way to fine tune the mono signal to EQ just the subwoofer. That is when you will probably need the concert style 24 + channel mixers with all the technology in it.
