Hi, kewl system! I bought my Yaris because I noticed with the rear seats folded forward I could nicely fit a full size air mattress. Its works but I'm only 5'9". Best tiny car for my camping was when I owned a Suzuki samurai and later a Chevy tracker. In both cars the front seats slid completely under the steering wheel and glove box leaving ample room to horozontally recline the front seats.

The repurposing of the computer monitor holder for the stove and table is brilliant! Bolted down ROCK SOLID. It occupies so little space, there is little likelihood of bumping into it - especially since you can swivel it aside, whichever side you may happen to be on - maximum efficiency and safety for the task, absolutely the best solution for the space, cannot be improved upon. I did a full tune up when I purchased my Yaris,the previous owner never did anything to the car as far as regular maintenance. These vehicles are extremely reliable I can personally testify to that,my Yaris has never left me stranded but I also take good care of it with regular maintenance and since is not expensive to fill the gas tank I only use premium gas it makes a huge difference in both mpg and how the engine performs. I got over 200,000 miles on the odometer and still going strong takes me anywhere I want to go. Good luck with your project and I would love to know how it turns out. @@sonofamountain2862 Awesome, so great to hear! And thanks for replying! I was reading all through the comments the other night learning more about rad changes you've made! Man thanks so much for posting this info! I picked up some Mobil 1 oil and filter to change that here shortly, and am shopping tires. The rims that came on the car are 14s but the tires are bald. I'm sure I can get my hands on some 15" rims eventually sooner or later. Did you install those strut spacer things before you put on the bigger tires? Also definitely want to install some brush guard under the undercarriage, I saw you did a street sign off of amazon for $20, do u have any more info as to what you did for protecting the back part with the race car plastic stuff? Cheers!
@sonofamountain2862
3 жыл бұрын
@@pineapplekatrina you can keep the 14 inch rims and put a different offset for all terrain tires and that would work just fine. The strut spacers can be but on at any time but it does help to have the front tires off when installing the back you don’t need to get the tires off at all but you do have to lift the car and make sure to spray the entire thing with soap water it will make it a lot easier for installing. As for protecting the under side of the rear of the Yaris I used 1/4 inch HDPE marine grade plastic sheets this is what they use to protect the bottom of rally racing vehicles it works and it’s not heavy you want to protect the fuel tank,fuel pump components and the brake lines don’t be afraid of covering the entire thing this plastic will not burn or melt it can really take a beating. But before you start any of that be sure that the engine is taken care off first. Here’s some things that helped both the performance and MPG on my Yaris . I clean the mass air flow sensor you can buy a spray specially made for cleaning it costs like 5$ and it will help with the MPG or you can buy a new MAFS for like 16$ parts for this car is super cheap. Change all spark plugs this will also help the engine run stronger. Make sure your serpentine belt is in good shape they cost like 10$ . Air filter is a huge one specifically if you plan on driving on dirt roads,I check my air filter every two months I think they cost like 7$ the cleaner the filter the better your car will run ,more air the better. Check your radiator fluid is it topped off? Is it super old? If so it needs to go. That engine is your lifeline it is top priority anytime and every time,if you take care of it I promise it will never let you down trust me. Also make sure all your battery connections are clean and your battery is up to date bad battery will usually fail when temperatures drop so keep an eye on that and check the date on it they should be changed every two years. I know it sounds like a lot but once you do this you can drive that car and not have to worry about anything for a long time. Am here if you need any help.

Hi son of a mountain, how do the steering components of that yaris handle the abuse of corrugated roads? Surely it wasn't built for such conditions?
@sonofamountain2862
2 жыл бұрын
A few things to consider here,first I drive extremely careful down any dirt and rocky road,I take my sweet time and make sure not to push the limits of this vehicle. Second- I have modified the suspension a bit nothing crazy,I added a one and a half inch lift kit since this video to help with some extra clearance,and I also added strut cushion buffers to all four struts to help absorb some of vibration going down washboard roads. The combination of all these things helps the steering stay intact,so far I haven’t had any issues,plus keeping in mind that the 2008 Yaris had no power steering,so it’s all arm control 😅. Also airing down the tires are a must when going off road. Hope that helps.

@@sonofamountain2862 yes important to let air down. I've done a couple thousand k's on a badly corrugated rd without letting the tires down and asides from a very rough ride ended up with little cracks in the steel or copper pipes which carried coolant through the engine so had a bunch of leaks at the end of the trip and that was a 4wd designed to take it. I unplugged the battery first. Then took off the 4 bolts that hold down the passenger seat. Then unplugged the wire harness connected (underneath the seat) to the passenger seat. Then tucked the wire harness under the floor rug. Then reconnected the battery,everything worked fine zero issues of any kind,the airbags light stays on and has been on for a couple of years now. Other than that,I haven’t experienced anything unusual. I didn’t remove any sensors,only the seats. The system continued to work normal and functioning as it always did. By unplugging the battery you protect the computer and the system from malfunctioning. Hope that helps.
