@@pedrofoliattideazevedo6800 If you're referring to left-hand vibrato, there is none in this riff. The vibrato sound is created by the rotary effect.

I rest my right hand on the strings to mute them when needed in this song. All you need is a wrist motion to strike the strings instead of a flying arm. I always thought that was more a bit of showboating rather than a playing technique, similar to the circular picking motion he does on Pride and Joy. Just a suggestion if you have trouble muting with your thumb.

I think you are referring to how SRV held his pick. He held it upside down. I don’t do that. I don’t think it’s necessary. Other things contribute to his sound far more. I happen to be using a Gravity JHS logo'd pick polished. www.gravitypicks.com/products/jhs?variant=30421217968163

Which Kemper profile did you use on this song? I just bought your 64 Verbrovibe + Steel String Dual Pack, but I cant find any profile in the pack that sounds like this, and no profile in this pack that have the rotary effect you used on Cold shot.

There should be a performance file in the pack. All the rigs in the performance have rotary added as an effect that you can enable. I think I used the rig in slot 2, Dirty Clean.

This is a good lesson and I agree with everything you've shown here but you left out one important aspect that I just discovered myself a while ago. Those on the beat A and G notes are played with left hand finger vibrato, especially the second A note in the riff. I don't know if Stevie did this live because he didn't always employ a Uni-vibe effect but you can clearly see and hear him do it in the 9/21/1985 Capitol theatre video. You can slow the video down to see it easier.
@desisernaguitar
3 жыл бұрын
Yes, adding a little left-hand vibrato on the A note specifically is closer to how SRV played it. 👍
@GuyNarnarian

Definitely hit it. I think the part I was missing was the open strings on the upstroke which for some reason is very hard for me to do and throws off the rhythm. I can mute the strng fine and play it that way so it still sounds good, but you definitely can hear those open strings in the recording. Very similar to the rhythm of the into to Pride and Joy, just easier.
@desisernaguitar

@@desisernaguitar I noticed. Its very good for rhythmic learning. I can make Cold Shot sound fine if I keep everything muted and just rake the strings but technically that isn't correct. You can't get away with that in P&J as its really audible in the recordings and shuffle. Thanks!
