Let me reiterate again: Listen to his advice. I typically do my crab snaring on the incoming tide up to high tide because the crabs can move about easier, especially if the swell and current isn't too bad. Well, this morning I took Matt's advice and went out 2 hours before low tide (9:30) and fished it through. I pulled *dozens* of dungies in-- most of them shorties though some were a millimeter under, but went home with 7 keepers when it was all said and done. I fished way longer than 2 hours past low tide (had fun tearing up a school of smelt) but 5 of my keepers definitely came within that 4 hour window Matts was talking about. For those of you local to SF this was at China Beach. I've learned more about productive crab snaring from these videos than anywhere else. period. If you're really interested in tossing out a snare and pulling in a few keepers for dinner, you are absolutely in the right place.

Thank you for recommending Gus’ discount tackle. Stephanie is awesome. She may weigh 100 pounds soaking wet, but she definitely has 300 pounds worth of personality. And she does have a good selection of a lot of different stuff for a great price. Again, thank you very much for recommending her.

Matt makes the best videos and this is one to watch if you want some good info. My partner and i check the wind and tide but it takes us 4 hours to get over to the coast. A long drive like that means we start casting as soon as we get there and keep going until from 10 to mid night when we leave. We start about 5am. The info is correct but we dont have the luxury to get a nap and come back later. We catch a few between tides. The crabs also seem to hit better when its dark.

Great educational video thanks for taking the time to make this. As someone who does crab in the pacific northwest somehow I have never heard of snaring for crabs until I started watching your youtube videos. Appreciate you sharing the good word on alternative styles of fishing/crabbing -- certainly crab snaring is a cheaper and more accessible way to get into things than big crab pots and requiring boats. Just fantastic sir.

DeezRMyDays Hell yes it is :) for SF you need to catch them west of the Golden Gate Bridge though. Due to high domoic acid levels you should probably avoid eating the guts/viscera/butter of the crab; but the meat? Gobble that ish up!

35 dollar alpha shakespear reel pole combo 1 crab snare 6$ big berkley spool of 20 to 40lb test 7$ chicken thigh or breast 1 $ 1 4 oz weight 1$ 1 snap swivel 0.25$ use glove to cast further. line has less tension on finger that way. you don't need expensive stuff. chicken is the absolute best bait. go to marina, cast to the various docks. catch both kinds, lots more crabs.

Hey friend, me and my buddy live in San Diego and there are some areas that to me seem OK, but it depends on your personal preference. The rockfish season also just opened so charter boats may be good. I like to go to Ocean Beach pier, if you go all the way to the end, then turn right and cast out to the tidepools with shrimp you can get rockfish, opaleye, perch and at the beach are some halibut. Sunset Cliffs is also great, I plan on visiting cat jetty, the fishing is mediocre but the cats that live in the rocks are really cool. Message me and we can meet, check out our channel if you want I'm recording this weekend and I'm planning to go to OB pier. Hit me up and I'll give u some locations, there are alot more spots then the ones I mentioned and I'll be happy to give them to you. Anyway talk to an actual fisherman. I'm semi new, I only got back into it a year ago but i know enough now that I can go out and get the job done. Have fun in San Diego -The Nubs

Great video buddy :). I used all your tips and the snares I bought from you and I've caught several keepers in a few trips. I am slowly getting better at reading the waves, current, and swell from magicseaweed website. But you are right in that low tide and very small swell are the best time to snare. Tip: If you have extra snares and no poles for them you can try throwing them out on some string then pull them in by hand. Its not ideal but I find myself catching close to as many as with the pole. It's definatly worth it if your not already too busy with what you've got in the water.
