Thanks for the clear tutorial. We are talking about running the original "Tomb of Elemental Evil", and some of our younger players are not familiar with the Character generation process for this version.

Your welcome, glad I could help! :-) I'm planning on having a massive playlist of BECMI videos at some point... one at a time, lol. And, that is super cool that you are introducing some of the younger players to the older versions of D&D! I hope they find the history of the game fun and intriguing. Good luck on the Tomb of Elemental Evil. Cheers!

What an awesome and detailed BECMI/RC character creation tutorial video - just started watching the GM Round Table Podcast live vod playlist - hilarious good fun :) Ah, memories of the old days when I was part of a solid HS friends group in the mid-80s in Australia playing Basic D&D and Expert - didn't get to play Companion and up - bit too complex for us at the time in our mid-teens lol Moved to AD&D in my 20s (both 1e and 2e).

Ah, thank you Mark, I'm glad that you are enjoying the BECMI/RC videos. Yep, the Companion and Master sets added some complication to the game, but there was some really good stuff in there that you can still use today. I encourage you to check it out someday if you don't already have the RC. Cheers!

@@WallyDM Oh the RC is amazing I have a DTRPG PoD of it. Was using the PDF well before WOTC released it for re-print publication.

Superb ty! One strange thing, the creator of the pre-rolled characters in the Red Box clearly used the “4d6 drop one” method. But the rules say 3d6. Ty again, look forward to the rest of the series!

Interesting observation on the 4d6 drop one with the pregens. I never noticed that. Albeit, in my old BECMI games, that is the method we used as well. Glad you are enjoying the BECMI series... I think I might do a combat tutorial next. Stay tuned!

Thank you for awesome explanation of the BECMI rules for the basic. Keep up the wonderful job. I am curious as I would like to see if you will also do any more tutorial for the other BECMI version of the other boxes like Expert up to the immortal version too. It is true I can read them myself but your tutorial have cleared up something that I read and misunderstood how it goes like the hit roll was a great example for figuring how you or the monster hits or missed. I thought I had understood the chart but I guess I was wrong. If you do I look forward to these future tutorials and gameplay examples too. Thanks for making these videos.

You're welcome! I'm glad you found this useful. And, you bet! I do plan on continuing this series for a long, long time. My hope is that I will be able to create videos on all subjects, including the Immortal set. But, I do plan on sticking with the basics first. I'm hoping to increase the frequency of BECMI videos in 2024 and hope to have the next one out in January. It will be about how to run combat as a player and then a separate video on how DMs can run combat. After that... I'm open to suggestions! Cheers!

Thanks for the replied. I do appreciated. I will look forward to those other when the time comes. In the meantime I still look forward to these. Basic explanation as well. The one thing I like so far is you willing to cover the materials thoroughly from cover to cover as others have mainly cover some or little of the topic like they give opinions on why to play BECMI version but does do what you do which gives us guide in the rules and stuff. I really like the examples given as it really help fixed my misunderstanding of what I read. Thanks again keep up the great work. I look forward to each of your new video of explanations. Have a great day!!!

I like using the optional rules found in one of the appendixes that allow demihumans reach level 36 just like humans. I find that its not that unbalenced.
