For anyone planning to use this as a game asset - what worked well for me is UV unwrapping the mesh before the cloth sim operation, it'll will be much easier to get a clean UV map with a proper layout from a plain undeformed base mesh then from the result of the physics simulation. Also, you might want to skip solidifying the mesh because that'll essentially double the poly count, unless you're not bothered about that. If you do solidify it then make sure to do it before the cloth sim since again it'll reduce a lot of the UV unwrapping hassle. This is just what worked well for me though, don't take it as gospel, great vid!

my carpet keeps falling forever, it doesn't hit the ground :(

Make sure the ground has collision and some subdivisions. And do not position your carpet perfectly parallel against the ground. I hope it helps.
