I like your video my dude. Fairly simple, clear speech, good audio, good video quality, good pace. It is worth mentioning, some older OS like High Sierra simply won't download through App Store because the working mac being used to create installer USB is "too new" or the OS (like High Sierra) is "too old" to run on the device... In which case, user must download the .dmg elsewhere.
@IT101

Thank you so much! I appreciate you! You are correct; sometimes if your Mac is too new or the OS is too old, then you will need to download the DMG or ISO from another website. I typically use archive.org as I do not have any problems getting the file to download from that website. Thanks for helping everybody out! We appreciate you 😉

Good news! We can fix this. If you will double click the DMG file and tell it to install, it won't actually install the macOS; it will just put the Install macOS High Sierra.app in your Applications folder. I am so glad to hear that this helped you! I have been looking but have not found anybody that discusses what is going on with the terminal commands in this video. Here is a very short explanation for what is happening. It is formatting the flash drive and then copying the files from the installer file to the flash drive. Then at that point it makes sure the necessary files for booting are also on the flash drive. You should be able to use this same method and create other bootable flash drives for other macOS versions. I am in the process of creating videos for other macOS installers. I will do my best to get them up very soon. Please let me know if you have any other questions or problems and I will be glad to help. Thanks so much for watching 😊

I would suggest a couple of things to try and resolve the Mac not booting the USB Flash Drive. 1. I would ZAP/Reset the NVRAM/PRAM. First, shut down your Mac. Then turn the Mac on and immediately press and hold down Command + Option + P + R (all keys) at the same time. Continue to hold all four keys until you hear your Mac chime three times. After the Mac has chimed three times, you can release the keys and hold down the Option key to bring up the Boot Options. 2.I would reset the SMC on your Mac with one of the two following options. a. MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro - First, shut down your MacBook. Then connect the power adapter to the Mac. On your keyboard, hold down the Shift + Control + Option Keys and the Power button at the same time. Release all the keys (including the power button) at the same time. The charging light on the MagSafe adapter may change colors (which will indicate that the SMC has been reset). Not you can boot the Mac as normal. b. iMac, Mac Pro, Mac Mini - First, shut down your Mac. Then disconnect the power cord and press and hold the Mac power button for 5 seconds. Now release the button and reconnect the power cord and boot the Mac as usual. 3. I would Repair the Boot Disk. First, shut down your Mac. Then turn on the Mac and press and hold Command + R keys to boot into the Recovery Mode. When the Utilties screen appears, select Disk Utility from the list. Then select your hard drive on the left side of the window and click First Aid in the menu at the top. This will diagnose any disk issues and attempt to repair them. Once it has finished, click on Disk Utility at the top left of the screen and Quit Disk Utility. Then Shut down your Mac. After you have tried all of these options, try booting to the Boot Options by turning the Mac on and immediately pressing and holding the Option key. See if you are able to select the macOS Bootable Flash Drive and have it pull up then.

so i know this is old but what if when you're trying to install the macOS and it says "This copy of the “Install macOS” application is too old to be opened on this version of macOS." What do I do?
@IT101
2 ай бұрын
I have encountered that same problem myself. What is happening is the disk image is perfectly fine, the certificate has expired because of the date. Since we do not know the exact date the installer was created, we need to change the date of the computer. We can fix this inside the installer and then you can install the macOS. Here are the steps to resolve it. 1. Boot to the macOS Installer (the macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Installer you created). 2. Once inside the macOS installer, disconnect your Mac from the wifi connection (if it is connected) and disconnect any Ethernet cables (if you have any connected). This way the Internet will not be connected while we are performing the next steps. 3. Inside the macOS installer, select Utilities from the menu bar and click on Terminal. 4. You can change the date of the Mac by typing in the following command: date {month}{day}{hour}{minute}{year}. So for example July 7, 2024 at 9:14AM would be date 0707091424. If the time is past 12PM, use military time for the remaining hours (example July 7, 2024 at 5:20PM would be date 0707172024). 5. After you have changed the date inside the Terminal, quit the Terminal by clicking Terminal in the top left corner of the screen and clicking Quit Terminal. 6. Try to install macOS High Sierra again after having changed the date. 7. If the macOS High Sierra does not install because it gives you an error, then try steps 3, 4, 5, & 6 again with a date that is one year older. I would suggest continuing to change the date to a previous year until one of them works. Example if you type in date 0707091424 and it does not work, then try date 0707091423. If that does not work then try date 0707091422 and so on. I would continue decreasing the year until you find the year that will work. If you have any problems with these steps, please let me know as I will be glad to help you 😊

Once in the installer, you would want to erase the hard disk (or SSD) with Disk Utility (please make sure you have a backup of your data first 😊). Then you should be able to go back to the install and put High Sierra on the drive. Let me know if this works or if you are still having problems. Thanks!

@@IT101 hello! Just have had a call with Apple support and identified that the MacBook needed to erased and named with a specific name to have additionally drives created to install the high Sierra. I had the high Sierra on a pendrive and was able to install it afterwards. ( I will update the name later when I have some time to check it on the MacBook)

Thanks so much! That is true; when you erase the disk in the installer, you need to give it a name and then select that name to install to when the installer asks you where you would like to install it. I will be creating a video very soon showing everybody how to install macOS High Sierra on your Mac. Thanks again for your contribution and help!

Hi marekk. I did create the video showing you how to install macOS Sierra 10.12.6 on your Mac. It should install similarly if you install on a different Mac or if you install a different macOS. Here is a link to the video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1YKpnnytp4KfmqQ

Hi, i've created a high sierra install on usb flash drive using your methods but when I look at the usb disk in disk utility it shows it's not boot enabled. Also when trying to boot from it...the drive doesn't show up. What can I do to make a bootable installer?
@IT101

It sounds to me like the drive was not fully setup. I would suggest you format the drive again with Disk Utility and make sure GUID Journaled File System (HFS+) with OS X Extended. Then I would go back through the steps one more time to create the bootable flash drive one more time. I would also suggest trying a different flash drive to see if maybe you have a bad flash drive. If it still doesn't not work or show up after doing all of that, please let me know and I will be glad to help you to get it working 😊

Hi @marekk7151. Try downloading this program (don't worry that it is called High Sierra Patcher), running the program, and click on Tools -> Download macOS High Sierra. You might want to try partitioning the drive as ExFAT, then formatting the drive as ExFAT, then partitioning the drive as OS X Extended (Journaled), and then formatting as OS X Extended (Journaled). See if that helps you copy all the files to the drive.

You might need to run the Terminal command (chsh -s /bin/zsh) in order to change the Terminal Shell to change from the BASH shell to the ZSH shell. After you change the shell, try the commands in the video and see if that fixes it for you. If you still have problems, let me know and I will be glad to help.

USB not showing up
@IT101
10 ай бұрын
I have a couple of suggestions to fix the USB Flash Drive not showing up. 1. I would try and reset the PRAM (Shut down the Mac, press the power button and immediately press and hold Command+Option+P+R, continue to hold those keys until you hear the Mac chime 3 times). a. If you have any problems resetting the PRAM, try another wired Apple/Mac Keyboard to reset it. 2. I would reset the SMC (Shut down the Mac, Unplug the Mac's power cord, Wait at least 15 seconds, Reconnect the Mac's power cord, Wait at least five seconds, and Start the Mac by pressing the power button.) 3. Double check that the USB Flash Drive is recognized and working on another Mac. 4. Reinstall the macOS from Internet Recovery. After the macOS is up and running, see if the Mac will recognize USB Flash Drive (specifically the USB installer you created). Then go into the System Preferences and set the USB Flash Drive as the Startup Disk. Please let me know if you have any additional problems or if any of those fix the problem.

The Mid 2011 MacBook Pro 15" and the 2015 MacBook Air should support the 10.13 High Sierra. I would also try the command again without putting sudo at the beginning of the command, since you are already logged in as root (indicated by the # prompt). Let me know if that fixes it for you. I will be glad to help if it is still a problem.

If it is asking you for the password inside the terminal, then you can type and not see the password as it is being typed (but it is typing it). After you have put your password in, just press the Enter/Return key and it should allow you to continue on. If you are trying to create a password for your account after you have created the installer and are installing 10.13 High Sierra onto your Mac, then it should allow you to type in the field. If not, you might want to check your keyboard (maybe use another USB keyboard and see if that fixes it).

macOS swapped over to Zsh for Terminal for newer macOS'. You can swap the Terminal back to Bash (so that the commands should work) by following these steps: 1. Open Terminal 2. Type in "chsh -s /bin/bash" without the quotes and Press Enter 3. Now close the Terminal window and reopen a Terminal window. Now you should be in Bash. You can tell by looking at the top of the window. It should say something like IT101 - - Bash. I hope that helped. If you have any other questions, please let me know 😊

@@IT101 Thanks for the response! I was able to switch to bash. However, when I ran the file, I continue to get "command no found". The iso file is in my Downloads folder. Should it be moved to a specific folder to make this work properly?
