Great work. Any idea how we can have the player actually move toward and in direction of the cursor position while entering the WASD keys? Every tutorial featuring WASD and Cursor rotation seems to have this same issue where the player tends to look like they are ice skating or something. Or Is there maybe a simple fix to just set movement speed for ASD to be slower so that it feels more natural for the player to move sideways toward the cursor? Many thanks.

Hey, really thanks for the explaining about the controllers, watched like 10 other videos, and read the docs, but was unable to set a correct movement, I'm using mixed between mouse click and keyboard to move, all the other videos makes so confuse, here was super simple, follow the steps, and in 5 mins players was moving as expected, thanks again.

I loved this video, very clear to follow. I do have a question, how can one change animation if say you are looking to the right, but you are moving up/forward? The animation looks like they are walking in the direction of the mouse, not in the direction of movement, I'd like to be able to have an animation of them shuffling to left and right or back peddling based on direction of movement. along that, I'd like to be able reduce movement if I've not moving in direction of looking direction.

not sure if you've found out a solution already, but it is definitely an undertaking to set up twinstick animations that dont look janky. in my experience, you need about 10 different animations on a blendtree, and you drive the blendtree by both forward/backwards movement & mouse position relative to the player. Your animations (clockwise on the blend tree) are: moving forward aiming forward moving forward aiming 45 right moving forward aiming 90 right moving backwards aiming 90 left (this is where your characters hips rotate so that as you aim more and more to the right your character flips their waist and is now running backwards) moving backwards aiming 45 left moving backwards aiming forward moving backwards aiming 45 right moving backwards aiming 90 right moving forwards aiming 90 left (hips rotate) moving forwards aiming 45 left You can DM me if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help, or find you resources that helped me set this up.

My topdown content drawer only has Blueprints and Maps. There is no Input folder. I am so confused. I am just starting to try to learn and I can't even get past step 1. :(

Your issue was that you had Break Hit Result branching out of Impact Normal, instead of Impact Point.

The rotation works fine, until I add Rinterp to Constant. It just stops rotating. I tried "Rinterp to" which makes it rotate again, but changing the speed do nothing. I have no idea why?

Excellent video! Question: how could I adapt this if I wanted my player character to face the cursor/mouse when holding down RMB (which I have figured out), but otherwise face the direction they're moving in (this is what I'm struggling with). Thanks!

Figured it out: you can set the property "Orient Rotation to Movement" with an event graph node, and using EnhanceInputAction node for your right click you can set the property to true or false based on whether the right click action has triggered or completed.

If you’re having the issue I was having then I have a fix. I made a scene and set it all up but it was shooting to the side of my character. So a quick fix for that is to go and rotate the scene in Bp_TopDownCharacter

Is there a way i can set Orient Rotation to Movement as a variable, i want them to walk in the direction of WASD but when i click rmb they can use mouse to look around and shoot. I have the rmb set up, but i cant them to rotate when unless its with my mouse, they doent do it automatically anymore because i toggled off the setting/.

Delete, the stuff we do on event tick and make sure to make sure the mouse is hidden at the start of the game, by unchecking the set show mouse cusor, we add this on event begin play

Hey! I have a problem when there's an elevation in the terrain. My character snaps to the location in a weird way.. Since the mouse detects whatever's under it it feels wrong when I look from something high to something low and if I go under a structure it's just 10x worst.. Any idea how to fix this? Like setting only an invisible plane as collision for the mouse?

To anyone who sees this, use node: Draw Debug Sphere Get Hit Result Under Cursor By Channel: Hit Result Impact Point -> Draw Debug Sphere: Center You'll be able to see where the mouse intersects with objects.
