This is so simple, we all should have thought of it. Been working on chords into chromatics for a long time, not realizing it was easy to be musical running the chords because they are a "system" of motifs and variations and also not realizing my chromatics were hard to make work musically because they were not systematized. Now, with Barry's chromatic rules and scale, they are.

What I really love about this is the process of taking a musical single idea (comprised of a few concepts, of course) and running it through all of the available permutations to find new sounds.

I know my scales and stacks, some of these connecting ideas are new and super helpful. I'm imagining practicing them in all keys and wondering how long it will take to ingrain these techniques. I feel like not as long as I might think, like relativitly quickly. But we'll wait and see. If all your other videos are as good as 60 and 61 then I will be watching and studying all the rest. This great because Barry's spirit lives on here.

This is great stuff...like always...thank you so much for that very inspiring and creative content Chris.... if one transfer this concept in this case (D7) to A Melodic Minor I think that gives you a more modern sound because of the raised 4th of D7 (->G#)...what do you think? Stay well and keep fit

thanks again for great ideas and content! i've been experimenting with using enclosures of the chord tones when i land on the beat with a 4,2, etc that needs correcting. For example, after a pivot - when i land on the 4. besides the option of going 4 5 3 to get on a good note, ive been also using 4 b3 3. Does Barry ever work with those? His scale stuff (adding 1/2 steps, chromatic scale method) is SO good, i was curious about whether he teaches using 4 b3 3 / 2 7 1 / 6 #4 5 / on descending scale ideas too??
