Girlfriend gave me a starfruit today so I watched this. Looked great when I had them all cut up. The flavor in my best American comparison would be like a sweet apple, then a pear, then a slightly sour apple but all combined together to form one fruit. I liked it, she did not.

Glad you like it! I am not sure why, it is possible you are allergic to it. I wouldn't eat it again, if your tongue burns after eating it. Does that happen with any other fruit?
@joeltupacmendoza5471
3 жыл бұрын
@@inthekitchenwithmatt I mean, yeah, that also happens to me when I eat these little tiny green apples (they are really acid). But it only happens after I eat like three of them. However, with the starfruit, I only can eat one or half and my tongue start burning. I guess I am going to try when the starfruit is really really yellow... I hope the tartness is less intense in that way... Anyway, great content and thank you for your answer!

I love these! Tip: After slicing them, place them flat with some space in between each one (in either a ziplock bag, vacuum sealed bag or the eco-friendly non- plastic ones) in the freezer for at least an hour for a cold, refreshing and natural snack. You can also make a drink called "bebida de carambola" which is like lemonade. (Mosltly water, ice, pureéd and strained starfruit, and sweetner as desired. I add fresh sliced white grapes, red ripe watermelon, strawberries and cucumbers in a family size pitcher for the ultimate hot day beverage) Thanks again, Matt! You're awesome.

Although the carambola tolerates various soil conditions, this tree prefers rich, loamy soils with pH levels ranging from 5.5 to 6.5. The other videos I watched said not to be scared of brown on the ridges b/c it meant the fruit was ripen and that it adds to the taste. So I'm wondering if you ever actually tried the brown ridges or as you said they look unappetizing so you just assumed they should be cut off? I'm being sincere. I've never had star fruit and I am going to be buying one soon. I always watch 3 videos on something I don't know about and like I said you are the only one who cuts it. So if you have actually tasted it and it doesn't taste good I really want to know about it???

Hi Katie, it isn't necessary to cut off the ridges, but they are stringy, and to me unappetizing, but you can still eat them if you want. :)
