Fantastic instructions! I went to two different lumber stores and NONE (5 different fellas) could tell me how to cut my crown molding...they looked at me like I was crazy! I am soooo thankful for the fantastic tricks of the trade...squaring the blade...etc. My new fireplace mantel looks gorgeous...my children emphatically expressed, "That looks professional!" Can't wait for my husband to see it! Thank you soooo much! Heather

Thanks Ron! You reminded me of the first time I tried to cut crown. I was in my early twenties, working as a helper for trim carpenters. They told me to cut all the base molding and they would cut the crown. Since no one could find the time to show me. I tried it on my own, started with an 8' length and ended up with a scrap, Luckily I worked with another carpenter who showed me how simple it really is and I have never forgotten it. 25 years later, he is still one of my best friends!

Albert continued, Most saws that have a compound miter feature, will have a setting for the spring angle, or a tag on the saw that will tell you what the spring angle is. Unless you are cutting large crown(over 5") you will find it much easier to place your crown against the fence of your saw on an angle, then cut your miter as needed. Hope this helps! Paul

Thank you for the video tutorial! I've done plenty of baseboard and door trim, but today was my first go at crown molding. I wrapped the top of a wall unit that does not touch the ceiling, and your tip on the setting up the guide line on tape and always keeping the top edge down really helped keep things straight.

Thanks for the great video Paul. Just finished up my crown molding project, thanks to you. I've done a lot of building and making things for work and at home and I've always been able to figure things out, but when it came to crown molding I was lost. It stumped the hell out of me. After watching your video I was able get the job done. Upside down and backwards, a bit confusing at first but after a couple of corners I got the hang of it. If I had a double bevel compound miter saw I probable could have been able to figure things out cutting the crown molding flat. Thanks again.

Nice video, well done clear concise and straight to the point! Wish more KZitem videos were this well done. Though I've been using my compound miter saw for more than a decade, for some reason it never once occurred to me to use blue painters tape to leave myself notes and custom alignments on the saw's table before... I've been doing some crown moldings for the 1st time ever and having a devil of a time remembering what I did right (and wrong) each day I go to do another room in this house! That was a great and much needed tip, went immediately out to saw with blue tape and pencil and made notes on saw table how to correctly position the darn molding and where to align it to! Many thanks!

Thank you so much for this video. My wife & I had our kitchen ALMOST how we wanted it with new tile flooring, painted cabinets (that actually turned out well), glass mosaic back splash, quartz countertops.. and then the crown molding on the upper & lower parts of the cabinets was the last step to really completing everything and giving it that final detail but we were quoted $500+ for that job, which we thought was absolutely ridiculous! So finally I got to the point where I was fed up with waiting & waiting to save up the money so I went to Lowe's, got all the pieces for only $125, got back home and came across your video and I gotta tell you, it all turned out fantastic! We did the majority of all the upgrades in our house but my wife didn't want me installing the crown molding since I had never done it before. I set out to prove her wrong and she couldn't be more pleased with the end result and how it turned out. I watched quite a few videos on KZitem but your painters tape idea was the easiest for me since all I had was an old miter saw that my grandfather gave me. I actually had to line up each piece of crown with the line that I drew on the painters tape and hold it down firmly with my hand. Took a couple practice runs to get it perfect but I just want to say thanks again for teaching me how to cut crown molding an easy way without a lot of tools and we will definitely be watching some of your other videos for how-to guides for any of our future projects that we may do. ☺

Hi Eddie Jones, Thanks for the comment and the advice. Your way of measuring is also very good. As far as Cut N Crown, It is a very good kit for cutting crown properly, but cutting crown is 2nd nature to me.
