This is one of the few videos I have seen that is done correctly and i agree, being a welder and fabricator for over 35 years. 👍👍

I'm so glad when I see guys doing this correctly with a step cut. The only thing I'd do differently would be putting a radius in those corners. Those corners are the only weak point susceptible to cracks. Nevertheless it's far better than a straight cut 👍

FIRST FOREMOST I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO, THE EXPLANATIONS ARE VITAL AND THE FRAME MARKING FOR THE CUTTING ARE PERFECT! WHEN I DID MINE I DID MAKE A COUPLE CHANGES FROM THE CUTS SHOWN. ON THE TOP SECTION I MOVED THE 6" STAY TO THE FRONT AND CUT OUT THE 14" SECTION TO THE REAR. THEN ON THE LOWER SECTION OF THE CUT I MOVED THE 6" STAY TO THE REAR AND CUT THE 14" OUT OF THE FRONT PART OF THE FRAME. MY REASONING WAS THAT I WANTED TO KEEP THE ORIGINAL BOLT HOLES FOR THE OLD BED SO I COULD USE THEM FOR THE 6' BED. NOW I DON'T HAVE TO DRILL 2 MORE HOLES IN THE FRAME FOR THE FRONT PART OF THE BED AND I KNOW THAT THE 6' BED WILL BE THE CORRECT DISTANCE FROM THE CAB. ALSO, WHEN INSTALLING THE NEW SMALLER TANK TRY TO USE THE OLD TANK STRAPS. A NEW SET OF STRAPS ARE GREAT BUT THEY DON'T LINE UP WITH THE FRONT HOLES IN THE FRAME FOR THE TANK. THIS PART OF MY PROJECT WAS PROBABLY THE MOST TROUBLE, MOUNTING THE NEW TANK SO IT WOULD BE LEVEL WITH THE TRUCK.

Sure is cheaper than spending $500 for a Brother's kit, that I waited 8 months on and they told me it MAY be December '23 before I get it. Of course I cancelled the order. Holly bought them out and I'm not so sure that was a good thing.

The 5 3/4 for the rear you’re measuring from the end towards the front of the frame I assume? Any bump info?

About to shorten my 65. I have a 66 short bed sitting in my shop to use as measurement comparison which is nice. Trying to decide if I buy a kit or just Z cut it like you did under my cab. Seems pretty simple. Btw I think I have the exact same lift as you. Champion TP-9 HD. Curious what’s the biggest vehicle you’ve had on yours. I have a 2004 sierra 1500 crew cab. Heaviest thing I plan to ever put on mine.

I like z cuts better than kits if you do right after you clean up the outside weld and a little paint can't even tell they are cut the kits have lots of bolts in that area you will see.Ive actually picked up a 90s model one ton Crew cab on there and a hummer h2 went up just fine

If you don't mind me asking what is the total length that the frame is supposed to be from the back of the cab to the rear of the frame I recently bought a short bed conversion 78c10 and something seems off. Also the guy tacked up some square tubing were the bed sits on the rear of the frame. About 2 inches tall saying that it needed it to line up the body lines.

im thinking about doing my 78 C10 (ls Swap) but I thought the leaf springs on a long bed and a short bed are different langhts?
@coyotecustomshotrodsandmet9138
3 жыл бұрын
Yes they are diffrent length but you can still relocate your bumber brackets and redrill the holes and use the bumber brackets that go to the inside of frame rails and every thing still comes out fine and bolts up

I use a straight edge on top of frame and bottom once together and use floor jacks and make sure that straight edge has no gap at all and you should be fine ive never had a problem doing it this way .
