Thanks to Dr. Lustig fighting for the health of Americans. I agree, once you stop eating sugar & watch for hidden sugar in processed foods & beverages that will help you stop sugar cravings. Also, we need to reduce bad microbiome that make you crave sugar. The best & fastest why to accomplish that is fasting. I agree to Dr. Lustig that it is ok to eat desserts, but limit to once per week. Want to eat desserts or drink alcohol is very different than need to. Being healthy is the most important things for us by eating healthy. Eat whole foods as much as possible. I always buy Plain Yogurt & add fresh fruits, such as strawberries, blueberries or raspberries. Just don't buy yogurt with added sugar. I like this video. Learn new knowledge from Dr. Lustig each time. Thanks.

Grow as many of your own fruits and veg as possible! 20% of Americans being addicted to sugar is pretty darned optimistic! Everyone I know is. Maybe that's the SF City effect. Here in the midwest, they put sugar on meat to grill and use sugar with cabbage and sugar in the form of marshmallows on sweet potatoes (which are so sweet already I can't grasp why.)

Smoothies sold in supermarkets are low in fiber and high in sugar because they are mixed at very high speed and warmed (shelf life) while having almost no veggie in the recipe. Thanks for posting this great video. One thing I noticed - Dr. Lustig emphasizes the importance of fiber in our diets, then advocates bacon and eggs for breakfast, which have essentially no fiber. Also, bacon is a highly processed food. I have a cup of organic rolled oats with berries, pumpkin seeds, flax seeds, cinnamon, and about 14 oz of non-fat milk. There is no added sugar, although I do add half a banana and a few raisins to give it a little sweetness.
@jalydavi
3 жыл бұрын
Cos most people try to avoid meats and eggs (or egg yolks), or go vegan entirely. Whilst he does recommend organic grass-fed bacon and pastured eggs, he definitely doesn't mean that's what you should strictly go for every breakfast time. He definitely advocates for seeds, nuts, and plant-based foods just as much, if not more. Also btw, he doesn't recommend lowfat milk, nevermind non-fat, cos companies tend to replace the fats with ridiculous amounts of sugar. He advocates for sugarfree full fat milk.
@salvatoretavormina5656
3 жыл бұрын
@@jalydavi There is absolutely no added sugar in non-fat milk. Non-fat milk has essentially the same amount of sugar as full-fat milk, and it occurs naturally it is not added. Just look at the label
@jalydavi
3 жыл бұрын
@@salvatoretavormina5656 i believe, from what Dr. Lustig says on his seminars, it comes down to the process, how low fat milk undergoes through more than the regular nonfat. Although, i actually did get a bit off topic... in regards to his advocating for bacon and eggs bit, they were comparing it to having sugary breakfast cereals and whatnot. A satiating protein-rich breakfast is always the way to go👍
@salvatoretavormina5656
3 жыл бұрын
@@jalydavi Have you even bothered to look at the nutrition labels on a container of milk? Instead of repeating what other people say, why don't you look at the nutrition labels and see for yourself? I don't know what type of milk you buy, but where I shop 1 cup of full fat milk has 12 grams of sugar and 0 grams of added sugar. And 1 cup of non-fat milk has 12 grams of sugar and 0 grams of added sugar. In terms of bacon and eggs, I agree it is better than a sugary breakfast. But a sugary breakfast isn't the only alternative. Even better would be salmon with eggs. And a breakfast that is high in fiber, high in protein, low in added sugar, and has no processed meats is way better than bacon and eggs.
@jalydavi
3 жыл бұрын
@@salvatoretavormina5656 well had she come up with salmon and egg as the suggested alternative to a sugary breakfast ofcourse Dr. Lustig would have seconded it a hundred percent. But on a whim she proposed bacon and eggs, and that isn't bad either. Bottomline was, no to sugar, yes to fiber. She could have come up high fiber plant-based protein-rich food, not bacon, not salmon, and it would have been great too given that bit of discussion was pointing to sugary breakfast. And as for milk, low fat milk undergoes processes that full fat milk doesn't. Plus, full fat milk contains more saturated fats, keeping you satiated for longer. However, saying that, it doesn't mean I'm demonizing low-fat milk. After all, to each their own.

I truly would love it if a person knowledgeable in the subject matter and words used would proofread the Transcript. As it is, with admittedly somewhat poor hearing, I have to sowly go through the entire presentation at least twice, comparing what I hear to what the Trancript reports, and then I have to make a lot of corrections. While they were proofreading they could also insert markers to show who was speaking at any given time marker. This is a selfish request, of course. Still, all the time it takes me to try to correct a Transcript is also time spent reviewing the material, so it is a good study habit.

Look into sprouting some lentil, garbanzo, radish, broccoli in widemouth quart Mason jars, high vitamin fiber ect. Grated carrot adds a lot to a salad. Grow a little garden if you can..True Leaf market for sprout seeds

The problem is all carbohydrate is broken down to sugar in the body. But Dr Lustig is a whole foods person, as opposed to “this” diet or “that” diet. I think his basic advice is a good one: if it has a label, don’t eat it. Sweet potatoes don’t have a label, but many grain products do.

Dont eat such foods. They are not helpful. It is clear you like them and want them, so eat what you will, and wonder why you are not healthy. Certainly your choice alone.

You can proof yeast in JUST FLOUR.....I have done it weekly for the last 15 years. Glucose from flour will feed yeast just fine. The best thing I ever used to proof yeast is actually rice syrup......all glucose.

"According to the Sydney University GI database, rice syrup has a glycemic index of 98, which is extremely high (12). It is much higher than table sugar (GI of 60-70) and higher than almost any other sweetener on the market. If you eat rice syrup, then it is highly likely to lead to rapid spikes in blood sugar"

Wendy garden , if rice syrup is used to feed yeast , the yeast has used the sugars for growth. It is no longer available as a sugar.

Isn't doctor Lustig merely contradictory about the artificial sweeteners? 1. Fructose does not drive the insulin spike although it is twice sweeter than glucose. Then how can a sweetener make an insulin spike just because it tastes sweet? Sweeteners are not even carbohydrates! 2. It has been said that sweeteners can can target adiposytes via blood and alter their function and at the same time sweeteners can influence microbiome. Aren't these mutually exclusive situations? If a sweetener goes into the bloodstream, it can not reach the microbiome in the colon.

What about un-frosted Shredded Wheat? Is that a healthy cereal?
@DashingPartyCrasher
4 жыл бұрын
I wondered the same until I learned from lots of experts that wheat is very inflammatory to our cells, even if we don't have obvious signs of gluten intolerance. Plus, wheat and oats grown in the US (and probably many other countries) is genetically modified and loaded with pesticide residues. So it's smart to find an organic wheat cereal and/or cut down on your wheat consumption. I gave up all wheat products about two years ago. The first few weeks was hard, but after that I no longer craved or missed it. Instead of cereal I have organic oats, which I first wash with baking soda and rinse before cooking. I don't crave boxed cereal anymore but if I did, I would just add a spoonful or two of organic cereal into my oats.

@@katyprattwheat's OK (if you're not allergic or have gluten intolerance) as long as It's minimally processed, whatever that is. Maybe you have to coarsely grind your own whole-wheat flour.
