Great video, i have 2 of the earlier bachmann 8 pin cl 20s and it looks like that clear sticky tape was originally fitted at the factory 😊

Hi Jenny. Interesting fit. Good to know it can be done. I think I’d test the decoder first, then all being well, shorten the wires to the 8 pin header to give a little more space. Not a job for the feint hearted as there’s some intricate soldering required, but it would make it easier to fit the speaker. I’d also investigate the “battery box” under the chassis to see if there’s space for a power bank to be fitted there. It’s where Bachmann normally put the tail lights switch but as there are no loco lights, it may be usable. A note of warning. If you do shorten the decoder wires, it’s best to insert the 8 pin plug into an old socket first as, if the pins get too hot they’ll drop out of the circuit board! A mistake I’ve made in the past!

I fiited a TTS decoder to mine with a sugarcube speaker a few years back. I just knew you would land up with your speaker under the fan grill. I'm sure my speaker is deeper than the one you used, and is a tad more bassy.

I recently fitted a HM7000 into an older Bachmann class55 with the 8 pin, cost me £60 off eBay, i wasn't keen on the Hornby deltic.

Amazing decoders, especially for the price. I agree 100% regarding stay alives, I've only ever had to use them on very short wheelbase locos. I've read a few comments where people are saying these are pretty much essential for HM7000 & TXS decoders, you prove this is not necessary! Maybe I missed it, but did you download the correct sound profile?

Thank you - very helpful. I wonder how many decoder failures are down to users not using Kapton tape to protect against short circuits. I have just fitted a HM7000 21-pin decoder and the clearance under the board was minimal. All it takes is a single layer of tape to avoid contact between components.

Can you add cab lighting with the 21 pin decoder?

Can a Hornby HM 7000 decoder fitted loco be controlled via my standard DCC controller? I use DCC++EX WIFI from my iPad or iPhone to control my layout via JMRI

You set it up in the app, then switch it to work on regular dcc

@@jeffheins6624 I need to know more before I invest in an HM 7000 sound decoder as I currently have a number of dollars invested in TTS decoders.

Yes, but you need the app to toggle DCC or Bluetooth, default is Bluetooth. Writing and reading CVs is way quicker on Bluetooth, and can be done while the loco is running.
