The anxiety of having a serious health problem is an obsessive and irrational concern. Also called illness anxiety, or hypochondriasis, health anxiety is marked by a person’s imagination of physical symptoms of illness. Other times, it can be the misinterpretation of minor or normal body sensations as serious symptoms of a disease, despite reassurances from a doctor. There are many people who suffer from health anxiety in the present day. They constantly worry about their health and regularly check their bodies for signs of illness. Often, they discuss their illnesses with friends and family. They always search for health information on social media. Health anxiety has the potential to interfere with a person’s quality of life. It interferes with a person's social, educational, or occupational functioning. The result is frustration and stress for families and relationships.
