Last year I decluttered my home area by area. It took a little while only because I didn't want to get overwhelmed. I keep a tidy, clean home, but decluttering is never ending. Mostly I was decluttering anything that had expired, didn't like wearing, hadn't used in a year, etc. Now it just comes down to the fridge, and our storage room attached to our home. Once a big declutter is done, it's easy to keep it nice. Get rid of at least 50%, if not more, if you have too much.

I decluttered my bedroom and bathroom first. It was so relaxing to be in a simplified space at the end of the day, even while the rest of the house was a work in progress, my room felt like a sanctuary.

I did the same. Bedroom first, so that even when the house was upside down, I had a peaceful space to end the day in. Bathroom next, for a quick win!

I personally knew this one couple oh that sold their home and move to a smaller home and they Decided to put in boxes only what they knew they were going to use in the new home and they would label it new home. Anything else that they knew they weren't gonna use? They just put them in boxes and seal them up and put everything in the garage of their new home. They kept all the stuff that they knew they weren't going to use In the garage so actually the whole garage filled up with boxes and after 3 years they did not open the boxes and they got Au haul and took. Everything and put it to the thrift store.. But they did keep family pictures and certain things that was very important to them. But other than that they said they didn't even miss a thing. Can you imagine having your garage full Of items that you never used all packed up . And then you just don't even bother opening the boxes. But I thought that was a great idea to Put only what you're going to use in a Box and stuff that you're not going to use in another Box and put it in the basement or rode. In the garage. For me three years would be too long. I would say maximum one year but even then that's a long time to fill the garage up with stuff and you can't get your car in there.

Very helpful guidance. Sometimes I find it productive to go back to a room just a few weeks after I’ve done it - makes a second pass easier when it’s recent. Just did that in the bathroom and dining room and immediately grabbed things to remove that I was sure last time I would still use. Quick and easy.

At the beginning it does feel overwhelming but I agree- if you just be consistent and work on one area a day… you begin to see progress and the gratification and satisfaction of it makes me so happy! Great, great video! Another good reason to wash your dishes first (and put everything away) is so you'll see exactly how many you have. Much easier to declutter the extras that way. Same thing with clothing declutter -.wash everything and put it all away. How many long sleeve knit shirts do I actually need? How many leggings, how many jeans, etc. And so on. Decluttering by category also really helps.

I have a trouble getting rid of stuff because it cost me a lot of money to begin with. For example I had bought some really nice dishes and to replace them would be about two hundred dollars. But it's just me as a senior living alone and I occasionally have friends over and I'm thinking. Why do I have 20 dishes when I only have a maximum of 4 people? That will come over and usually we meet in coffee shops anyways . And even though there cost me a lot use them and it makes me mad that I bought so many in the first place. When we make purchases we really have to Thanks seriously before we put it in the cart .

This was one of the best decluttering videos I’ve seen! It’s like you mashed together a few different strategies and made it soooo practical. I am realizing one reason I avoid decluttering (and feel overwhelmed by it) is because I don’t have a picture of the end goal in sight. I’m the kind of person that likes to visual an actual picture of an end goal (even with art work)…and I get tripped up on how I will organize what’s left after decluttering because I don’t know what items will be there. This is where my overwhelm comes from. Am i alone in this??? Someone tell me they relate!
