I was working on a K1P1 ribbing beanie hat got stuck at shaping the crown.Glad to find your post. Round 1:*K2,P2Tog*repeat till Round 2: *K2tog,P1*repeat Round 3: *SSK *repeat Round 4: *K2tog*repeat Round 5: knit stitch. End up 9stitches and finish with a darning needle, pull thru and weave the ends. End Result is a very neat crown. Thank you very much for sharing this pattern. Thank you, thank you

I just figured this one out. I'd like to share it for easier knitting :) The round 3 of the decrease rounds... For the SSK, just do the slip as if to knit and put that stitch back on the needle. No need to slip the second stitch as to purl. Because you are going to put that stitch back on the same direction.

Just pure genius. You really helped me. I must say you are a very tight knitter so I applaud the fact you could knit 2tog at all. I knit so loosely it's aggravating. I thank you so much for the answer to my hat decreases. It's a very clean neat finish to my hat.

+Marlene Jones If you are finding you're knitting looser than you would like maybe you could experiment with some alternative ways of holding the working yarn ready to tension release for knitting the next stitch? I'm always trying different styles of knitting just in case I feel more comfortable using another method. I'm so glad the video has helped you get a lovely neat hat! :-)

Hope that helps, thanks for the really great video!

This is a lovely video. That yarn is gorgeous! I’d like to share that I had a very great struggle with knitting and purling two together until I trained myself to knit on the tips of the needles. I see that you are struggling in the same way I did by working down on the barrels of the needles. This can cause a lot of stress on the tendons in the hands and long term hand issues. Suzanne Bryan has a video that shows how to knit on the tips of the needles for both English and Continental knitters. That video changed my life and I stopped hurting myself using her technique. Blessings to you!

Thanks for posting the video. It really helped when using a 2x2 ribbed pattern. I have a question for you though... Would a person use the exact same stitch formula for decreasing in the round using a 1x1 ribbed pattern, as you did in the video for the 2x2 ribbed pattern? Or should I be knitting and purling less together? I tried but it didn't work to keep the pattern the same.

So would it be any use trying to decrease the same way in stockinette stitch? Cos my ribbing is only on the edge of the beanie, and the rest is circularly made knit stitch.(stockinette) I'm going nuts cos altho this is the most satisfying look, my hat is NOT ribbed! And everyone else has abstruse and complex mathematical equations which sorry: not good at.

Wow this is a super clear video! Thanks! I do need some additional advice though... I've made a balaclava out of a 2x2 ribbing pattern. From the eyebrow line I'm supposed to continue the ribbing until the hairline (about 2 inches), then start the decrease. Will this decrease pattern work to decrease from the hairline to the middle of the head or will I have to knit a few more rows of ribbing before I start the decrease? Note I'm working off an existing 3x1 ribbing pattern. Since I decided to change it to 2x2 I've confused myself for the decrease. :( Please advise. Thanks!

Hi Edda, The pattern is explained with another video I have done, and then you use this video for the crown decrease. That video is called "How to knit a beanie hat | How many stitches to knit a beanie hat explained | How to knit a hat" (it won't let me put the link here). You can knit the hat as long as you want it and then it's a very quick crown decrease using this video above. I don't recall the yarn I used, but it was one of those that have many colours in so that it creates it's own look. You can choose any yarn so you will not be restricted

Can this work on a plain knit beanie and do you just knit two together every two stitches?
@MsVegemitekid
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Claudia, I guess you could do this with a plain knit beanie and k2tog like you say, but a more traditional method for plain knit is to divide the number of stitches into sections and work down the increases as shown in the following video (adjust the amount of sections according to your number of stitches ie you may need 5 sections or 6 or 7 sections depending on what your total number of stitches divides equally by) kzitem.info/news/bejne/t4-mlolmgZiGe6A

How would you do this if your pattern was a one row knit one row pearl?
@MsVegemitekid
7 жыл бұрын
Hi Susan, If you are knitting on circular needles in the round you won't need to do a pearl row. The main side is always facing you and so you keep knitting, but put a round marker so that you know where you began. I have a method for crown decreases on my Video called How to knit a beanie hat, Decrease for Crown (it won't let me put the link)

I haven't tried it Samantha but maybe in the first decrease you could pearl 2 together twice and knit 2 together twice so that you end up with a 2x 2 ribbing. then k2, p2 all around and then use this video from there

What about a 1x1 rib stitch? Will this method of decreasing work?
@MsVegemitekid
6 жыл бұрын
Hello MyStrange101, This video is especially for 2x2 ribbed hat. There will be crown decreases for 1x1 ribbed hats in google or youtube. However, You can use the SSK technique here in round 3 for the neat K2tog to start off your decreases, and then knit 1 round ( no decreases), and then next round k2tog all around, next round knit all around ( no decreases). so in other words do alternate rounds of decreasing until you have small amount of stitches left on double sided needles (like at the end of this video) I hope I’ve helped a little...also here’s a video about how to close the hole kzitem.info/news/bejne/0m-QqYOhsmR4mI4
