Thankyou Hayley. Food always tastes way better if you've made it yourself when out in the sticks. Cheers from UK.

I guess you could blend the meat before dehydrating it for even more small pieces (almost powder)

Awesome! Thanks! What is the weight difference between fresh and dehydrated?

Thanks for that, do you have an idea how long that would be ok if it was vacuum sealed and just in the back pack?
@settohike

Theoretically it is meant to be years! Although I would always be worried that I might have a tiny unknown hole in the bag or something haha but I would personally keep it for around 3-6 months :)

Interesting: here in the USA they only list percent fat content of packages of meat.

So, anything less than 15% can be dehydrated well. So they say..

This particular time I was making a honey beef stirfry. So I had rice noodles and all the vegetables separately such as mushrooms, broccolini, ginger, garlic, spinach. And I put together a little sauce to take along which had soy sauce, fish sauce, honey, sesame oil and lemon. Other times I might just mixed beans and tomato paste into the mince and have it with mashed potato and spinach. I am just starting to film a few more recipes so hopefully they will be out soon :D

Haha I mean you wouldn't catch me eating mince by itself dehydrated or not 😜Definitely tastes better when its cooked up with the rest of the meal 😀

A slightly off-topic question.... but how/where do you store your food at night? I've seen so much mixed advice about keeping food in layers of odour-proof bags, in your backpack, outside your tent - to avoid animals big and small from clawing their way into your tent (e.g. Mice, wombats and then things like bears in the US). But others say it's not necessary and keep their backpack (with food) in their tent. What do you do? Any advice?

In the States you can get Ursine Bags (Probably in Australia too) which are bear proof bags made of a Kevlar type material, we use them a lot, along with an Odor Proof bag. They will also keep out mini bears (aka Mice). A few places in the States a bear can is required, but I only use them when I absolutely have to due to the weight. I have had multiple holes made in my tent when I wasn't in bear country and had my food in my tent. If you're aren't in an area with large animals to deal with hanging it from a tree limb from some cordage will probably suffice. Happy trails!

I make lots of recipes that have mince meat in them, thought it would be nice to highlight how to dehydrate the meat since it’s a component you don’t want to get wrong. :)
