Sherry I have been following you in some form or fashion online for a good 10 years. It's encouragement like this that has kept me hanging in there. Homeschool doesn't have to be complicated and expensive. Not all of us are able to drop hundreds or even thousands as some do on boxed curriculum. You have a knack for really peeling away all the clutter of the homeschool mindset out there. I have and use your Record Book and love it. Keep doing what you're doing 💛

Mom Delights I ordered thru Google books and they’re paperback but very good quality. I choose the white paper option to make it look really crisp. Very readable. I found another gem called Everyday Number Stories by Emma Serl (of Primary Language Lessons fame) as well. I always choose the Harvard Bookstore option thru on demand books in Google and the quality has been great every time.

I realized how much you have blessed my home with your lesson plans and videos...and I felt that helping moms set up a family environment that brings peace and joyful moments would be awesome. I feel that building an atmosphere that works with the families routines will help mamas enjoy their littles ones. Working it as a checklist format instead of some daily program. If you spend 1 hour daily with all of your littles you can build such a family bond.

Yes seeing how the math requirements moved to fast for many kids didn’t make sense to me. It just widens the gaps for slower learners. When the kids aren’t passing the tests we assume it’s because they didn’t understand the standard but in reality they never mastered the prerequisite skill needed. A lot of math standards were developmentally inappropriate for some kids.

Funny thing is that I tough my kids very little about telling time. They practically learned on their own and they are so good at it. We have 2 books with clocks and they loved it when they were little. They leaned a lot from those. Still they go through those books sometimes. They used manipulative for a little while but at some point it became another set of toys. With money, they each have their own piggy bank and they know exactly when one of them gets more money than the other one. I used to ask the kids to count their money to tell me how much each one had. I also gave them coins to divide it among them equally. They learned about money so fast. They kids to the bank, grocery stores, farmers market, let them pay, and they will learn real life math. I think you don’t have to drill those two concepts that much because they really do come naturally. My kids are using Saxon math now with the Dive online lessons and they love it. The books reinforce what they have learned. They are older now and are doing pre-algebra Thank you for another wonderful video🌸

Wow, what a wealth of information. Thank you! Would you recommend the little Ray's Arithmetic workbooks that Mott Media had put out years ago? I believe I won a few in a giveaway some years ago but I never got around to using them. My youngest child is a different learner with some learning difficulties. She has problems with her vision as well as autism so while she's so smart, not everything comes easily to her. We have to do a lot of repetition and while I used to go at my child's pace with my older kids, this one's vision could go at any time and even recently she lost a little bit more of her vision. We've waited forever for new glasses with the ronas and everything being shut down. I can't tell if she's struggling because she can't see so well or because she just needs more time. I push her sometimes because of my fear so thank you for the reminder that God's got this. I'll have to keep that at the front of my mind. Another question- what do you think of Rod and Staff math curriculum. It's actually what I'm using for all three of my youngest, the ones I'm still homeschooling. My oldest daughter had to take remedial math courses in college because like you said, I was just pushed through math in public school and I don't have a good grasp on it so I bounced around from curriculum to curriculum trying to find what worked for my two oldest children who are now adults. When my oldest went to college she had to back way up with math. In her second or third semester she got a teacher who was not educated in the U.S. This woman fully comprehended math and she taught my daughter so much more than all her previous math teachers. That teacher assigned the class mountains of math drill until they knew it forward and backward. I showed my daughter Rod and Staff and she said it looked very similar to the drill her math whiz teacher had assigned to her and her classmates. My middle kids are doing Rod and Staff slowly but they are grasping math facts like my older kids just didn't. Again, thanks so much for this video, I'll be watching it at least a few more times to absorb everything.

Sorry for the long reply, for some reason KZitem doesn't always alert me when a new comment is posted. I think R&S is a really good math curriculum, the Amish use this and don't take math past 8th grade, yet they run farms and small businesses and read quite well. As for your child who struggles with eyesight, I would go to oral math, or use a huge blackboard that you could write in huge numbers--no use in straining and losing what precious eyesight she has over silly school work :)

Crazy. My daughter was testing high, got a teacher who was such a mess and had nothing together and couldn't communicate even simple book list requirements to me so we could keep reading at home, my daughter was a grade ahead in all her testing then got put in special education and was testing at the beginning of the prior grade level. Makes sense now that the teacher the whole year was complaining about tests tests tests and I think if her kids didn't test well then she looked bad. She already had so many complaints, I kept asking her why her reading scores dropped so much and apparently they were doing nothing except preparing for testing because they wanted raises so they put a bunch of these kids in special classes. But I couldn't understand how my child went from a year ahead in reading to being in a special class and. It was because the teacher needed the scores to be not included. Funny thing I went to a private college and they kicked everyone out the term before graduation if they didn't want to include your gpa in their marketing.
