I have that exact one. Found it in a box of old stuff. Rigged it up with a snubber and leader/flasher/spoon and it got 1/2 of all my hits fishing in Sooke BC on 23 Aug 2020. I thought it was only good for coho on top water but the next day I used it and got a 70cm Chinook! I use it with my line counter reel

Thats awesome! Sounds like a good day fishing. I started out using them for Salmon, but ive since caught many species of saltwater fish on them also, including Tuna and Amberjack to name a few.

GOOD vid, I always hook leader/lures to the trip end not the other way around. And the pole/line to the non trip side. Waves will not trip the dipsy then. And you can set the bite tension to the fish not the resistance to the diver to the water. Keep you the good work. Happy fishing

Good point...but...if you do that, it would seem you can't trip the pin to reel in the lure. What am I missing? Thanks.

How do you net a fish with a 50 foot lead? I use like 6 feet
@capt.joshgrolling61

J S hand line them in. That’s the best part of the fight!

@@capt.joshgrolling61 that’s just plain crazy. 50ft leader!!! Bet you spend a lot of time on lost fish lane.

Question: When you go to reel them in without a fish on, do you try to trip the diver first so you're not reeling against the tension, or do you just reel it in as it was set?
@capt.joshgrolling61
5 жыл бұрын
mfquaiz You will want to trip the diver. To do so, simply reel down and get the bow out of the line. Once you’ve done that lightly thumb the spoon, and give a good and quick pull with the rod straight back. You should feel the pin release. Be sure to set you’re pin weight before sending the diver out, or it may be set right and very difficult to pop.

do you use snubbers? I'm taking a couple of these down to Cuba with me... the wahoo will be in town in November, and I know thr snubbers ate built for lake trout and walleye...but I'm wondering if they are built to handle bigger fish. If not, would a good, strong mono leader do the job?
@capt.joshgrolling61

dartfrogger I have always used them with just a heavy mono leader when I was using them in the saltwater. They’ve held up just fine like that for everything from big grouper, Amberjack, and Tuna, and more.

with such a long leader how do you reel past the dipsy? hand lining ?
@capt.joshgrolling61
6 жыл бұрын
the hammah exactly! Once the dipsy reaches the rod tip, coach the angler to take a few steps back from the stern of the boat and position yourself with the rod tip still with tension and over your shoulder above your head. That way if the fish decides to run there will be no shock to the line when the rod bows back up, hand line the fish to the boat and be sure to handle the line properly to ensure your safety as well as the integrity of the line against anything sharp on the boat.

What do you use for main line to dipsy?
@capt.joshgrolling61

Typically braided steel line when freshwater fishing. When saltwater fishing I use 40-60# mono with a flouro leader going to the bait.
