Brian, among all the self-help videos out there on KZitem, this five minute nugget stands out for me as being fundamental, because it imparts higher purpose to all the other self help techniques. I think it's the closest I have found in this genre to the concept of aligning oneself to the divine spark within, so often expressed in the more religiously oriented fields of self growth. In this sense it is a bridge between the two, and I have been looking for that for a long time. So keep up your fantastic work, you truly perform a great service.

Lots of practice!!! I've been thru the robot phase and have just kept on putting in a *LOT* of time practicing, practicing, and practicing some more! 10,000 hours here we come!! :) I deliberately try to communicate as if I'm sharing an idea I'm super excited about w/ONE person and I allow for mistakes + stream of consciousness flowing. (Rather than trying to impress a lot of people w/how smart I am and trying to get it all perfectly!) Let me know if I can help with any other ideas, etc. Rock it!

Good points...but I think the only thing that is really stopping us is our excuses. It's easy to blame the ego in place of complacency. If you want to make a change it's simply a matter of doing what you often don't feel like doing. The ego is never more powerful than your own will.

When he/you said "You need to be plugged in (like a lightbulb) to find your purpose" first thing I thought about was: society! If you actually go out, be part, volunteer, meet new people and old friends, if you actually try a be a "member" of society, you WILL find a purpose, you WILL find meaning, you WILL find happiness and joy in friendships and a new relationship and so... So that was what I was thinking about, but then he said "God or The Universe..." and I was bummed out :-(
@xelavii8872
10 жыл бұрын
Actually...I think your answer is quite relevant too. You see what you thought of first is what I thought of too. I think they are both correct. Both answers lead to the same thing. If you connect to "God or The Universe" that will basically lead you to connect to society in a way. You will be interacting and being a part of something which can help you find your passion. The two things (society and God/Universe) aren't mutually exclusive in my eyes. So even though it's two months later...don't be bummed. XD

Xela Vii I totally agree. We don't tend to realize that we live in a big world with many different ways to perceive reality. Americans are generally narrow minded and programmed with a sense of "I" "you" "they" or "this" "that" "it" which is a perception largely energized by a language that is fundamentally built on a view point of separateness. The Asians call it "duality". Religions are a prime example as many isolate themselves from other groups, as are politics, and all other groups really. Asians had an awareness of "oneness" and it wasn't a religion, it was an awareness fostered by exercise of mind/body as a whole. We like to sit back and "think" in America, and sometimes we think we know it all or know what is isn't. God is real ...God isn't real; God is just a word until you experience the truth behind it and it doesn't happen thinking about it. It happens when you realize that you, and the person next to you share a fundamental connection that goes beyond your perception of separateness.

Wow this was powerful! I have been trying to discover and live by a value centric life, taking inspiration from Ray Dalio, Covey, Benjamin Franklin, Einstein and creating heuristics for decision-making and living a determined/conscious life. This could be referred to as taking a bottom up approach to discover the things I value and see as virtue, learning about morality and ethics, but without defining what the end goal is. I took away from this video the top-down; that embodying these values achieves the 'plugging in' to god, or the highest verison of yourself! Thank you Brian !

Brian, As almost always useful information. Not to mention all the comments from others, fascinating how useful those are as well. It'd be really interesting to see a video where you sat down with say 5 of the most challenging but well thought out responses posed in these comments and offered compassion and understanding to them, you know really dug into what is being offered, its usefulness (what is it actually pointing at) and how one would integrate those thoughts into the practice you are proposing. That's not really why I picked up my pen here though, just a thought that arose. My question: In the video you mention a gap that arises between the self we want to be and who we are being illustrated with < == ==> a continuum like that and you say you'd do a video on that alone sometime. I'm wondering if you ever did that. Thanks again for your work.

It's about conscious energy, not just an instruction page or body of knowledge (although this is often the start of the realization). I agree with your statements for the most part as I have done over 15 years of deep contemplation of this very subject as an artist and "philosopher". You mention having many ways or exercises to "plug in" and I am curious what you have come up with ? For me it is about that exercise YOU do to tap in to this higher self. A lot of people "know" but the real wise ones are the people who have a practical exercise like in old Asian cultures (ie. Tai Chi, which centers on breath and movement as one... a "lost" form because we largely only perceive the "external" aspect of it as an observer and not an "experiencer") for example which is the greatest method I find for tuning in to higher "consciousness" because it's more about tuning into the Body Mind unity rather than just intellectualized information that we "think" is the answer. You mention people getting trapped in the "holy grail" but isn't the idea of a scratched out series of words and ideas on a piece of paper your own version of this holy grail ? A lot of people like to access "the higher self" but I assure you it is not found in your intellect, it is beyond intelligence; it is raw awareness and that is something that can never directly be taught or transferred. As the old masters say..."I can show you the "door" but you are the one that must WALK through it"...implying Action not just knowledge. If you had truly discovered your purpose in 5 minutes you would be SHOWING us an ACTION derived from the awareness of your individual "mission"/"purpose". I admire your passion and "seeking" though, as your intentions seem pure. keep going and you will discover that action that goes beyond words. And yes, everything I have written here is basically meaningless until it is actualized. Keep an eye out for a video I may post inspired by all of this. I don't know exactly what it will be yet...working out some details...but it will not have any words in it ;) This video was a map for you to follow; not ready yet for it to be a teaching for others... in my opinion.
