How to make a DIY Dart (Demodog) owned by Dustin from the Netflix series "Stranger Things" Season 2. A quick, simple and easy clay sculpting and painting craft tutorial for how to make Dart from Stranger Things.
I'll show you how I sculpted and made my own Dart model from Stranger Things out of Fimo Soft Polymer clay - This How To video will show you how to recreate a realistic model of a baby Demodog (Dart/Dartanian).

STEPS:
Create the body with foil and try to avoid air gaps, creating a 'raindrop' shape.
Roll out a sheet of clay and cover the body
Use vaseline on your fingers to stop the clay sticking to your hands and making it easier to mould it.
Begin to shape and define the body.
Use extra clay to build up parts if needed.
Sculpt a 'fin' along Dart's back.
Using sculpting tools, begin to add texture onto Dart's skin along the fin. Create skin creases and lines that seem natural to the body shape and skin folds, also copy a reference photo.
Prop up the body at an angle that would seem natural.
Roll a cylinder of clay and make it thinner at one end. This should be just over the length of Dart's body.
Manouver and place the tail into the desired position.
Place half a toothpick into the fat end of the tail.
Place clay glue on the body where the tail will be attached.
Stick the toothpick into the body and blend the tail onto the body, using extra clay.
Carefully continue to sculpt and shape the tail, carrying on the 'fin' from Dart's back to the end of the tail.
Again, carry on creating skin texture along the tail.
Roll 2 cylinders and cut to the desired length, fold in half and flatten one half to create a 'foot'.
Using a knife, cut out 4 'toes/claws' and cut away any excess.
To perfect the shape and size, add detail and round off edges with small sculpting tools.
Place half a toothpick into the trunk of the leg.
Insert the toothpick into the body.
Blend the legs onto the torso and ensure the feet are flat to the working surface.
Make further adjustments and details.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes.
Leave to cool.
Begin painting the undertones, looking at reference photos.
Start with pinks, oranges and a bright yellow on the back and cover Dart completely.
Leave to dry.
Use a dark green paint and lightly apply over the undertones, I recommend to use the techniques as follows:
Dab the paint on with a brush, then with a paper towel lightly pat away excess paint to allow a lighter coverage for the undertones to shine through. Also, use a sponge (or here a beauty blender cut in half) and pat on the paint. These techniques create a light, speckled, evenly spread colouring for a more realistic and skin like texture and look.
Gradually build up the layers and use a reference photos to add specific details such as darker and lighter patches or specific areas of colouration.
Leave to dry once satisfied.
Use a sealer to create a glossy shine and protect the paint work, mimicking Dart's shiny, smooth and slimy skin texture.
Paint over generously.
Leave to dry and proceed to give multiple coats.
Then, you're done.
