Most homes in San Diego don't come with lots of land, so that means we want to make the most of our growing space. One way to do this is to get vertical!
There are all sorts of trellises that you can use, and what you choose will depend on what you are growing. This here is a T trellis, and it's being used to support a raspberry bush and its canes as they grow. It's a good option for different kinds of berries and even grapes (you commonly see trellises like this in vineyards).
To give this strength, you want to ensure it has a strong foundation. That means you can use a cement footer or concrete pier to anchor the vertical posts.
Especially if you are growing grapes that can get heavy, you usually want to keep the span between posts about 6 or 8 feet. That will minimize sag and maximize support.
