It's funny... Learning stuff, sometimes you don't know what you know. Some days you can do it, and some days you can't, and that's immensely frustrating. But to truly understand how to perform a trick or transition you have to firstly discover and then master all those unknowns. I landed my first Flaka months ago but they've been inconsistent, at best! I laughed watching this video because one of the main tips, don't lean back / stand centred is exactly the issue I realised I was doing in my last session as a key to making them consistent. Ahhhhh.... Just need to master that now! The process continues!

Damien’s tip of staying up over the board has been a game changer for getting consistent (then i will have full sessions where I can’t land a single one ahhhhb 😂). Thanks again for the amazing videos 👍😎

I've seen some absolutely amazing videos of these groms on Maui doing these and it looks like they get up out of the water and first counterrotate, almost like they are winding up and then they let go and spin around in the other direction. It is hard to explain but watch on the JD Followcam channel and he, JD, is out on the water chasing them with a 2m kite and Lift foil on a Mauiskimmers board (crazy small setup). He gets crazy good video just using an Insta360 GO2 camera. The stuff he videos of these kids gets me so jealous and makes me wish I was about 40-45 years younger.

@@DamienLeroyKZitem Check it out Damo! Wild what you can do when you weigh 80lbs! JD says the wind on Maui is honking 35+. Would love to be at a place with good consistent wind.

Easier to learn on flat water too, avoid doing them off a ramp to learn. Ramps throw your weight back and put you off centre, I could do them on the flat but had to learn them again off a kicker

Gwen grew up windsurfing so I do believe he uses an under grip like windsurfing.

So pumped to try this now, I’ve been using the a high aspect foil (f1 eagle 790) do you think it’s better with a more mid aspect foil so the foil can spin in the water more easily?

HA wing would be my choice, as speed is nice to have but they both will work! Its more how you leave the water!

JD FollowCam just released a new wing grom video-go to his channel and prepare to be blown away. You can see several examples of what, for lack of a better term, I call a 'windup' and release to do those flat 360s. These kids are outrageously good. Oh to be 12 years old and about 80 lbs.

Hey Damien and Gwen! You said that use a bigger board it´s a game changer, but how much weights Gwen? I saw he uses a 88L but this maybe its a lot for some people and and not enough for others... right? PD: I weight 72 Kilograms. PD2: Thanks for your amazing job!w.kzitem.info/news/bejne/mG6s1a6ZkWuUZoY

Gwen is around 160 pounds! When learning his big size to make it easy would be 100L - 140L! He is more skilled now so can use a 88L and smaller as he has the skill and balance to stand on minimal volume! You guys are about the same weight. Go big to learn and then can always come down!
