@Xoio Hey, just curious, whats the benefit of the triangle terrain mesh? I made one this way, but am going to try it with a quad terrain. Is it more about being able to merge all the verts in the end easily? Or is there other reasons to use the triangles for the terrain? Thanks in advance
@phalhappy8612
Жыл бұрын
you can apply dispalcement and subd modifier on the base terrain and decimate quad, but you'll lose details in some sharp areas. your terrain will apears too smooth. that's why you need to shrinkwrap a lower resolution mesh to a higher one to preserve detail and reduce poligons. but when shrink wrap a low resolution quad mesh you'll have shading issue when it bends in middle of the face. that's why you need triagle before shrinkwrap.

i'm facing a problem with this method, After dissolving the outer edges when i bring the road back to its original height the road is not exactly at the centre but slightly offset and hence it overlaps with the surrounding terrain. it wasnt happening initially but i dont know where i went wrong
@XoioDe
Жыл бұрын
Hard to tell from distance. But it seems you moved the road. Can't you push it back looking at it from above?
@SuzieRussel
Жыл бұрын
@@XoioDe no, its irreparable, i have to do the track again. in some places its offset to the right and some places to the left. At first I thought it happened because maybe I moved the track up in edit mode before extruding instead of object mode, but it happened in both. I think maybe I took extrusion axis as Z global and not Z normal. So if face normals are bad it can mess up ?
@SuzieRussel

@@XoioDe It also happens if I apply boolean modifier on the ground mesh instead of track.mesh
@XoioDe
Жыл бұрын
@@SuzieRussel The only thing I can recommend from distance is going back to the step when you extrude the road to the sides with the solidify. Here you should be able to make sure it is right spot on. Additionally the Shrinkwrap might have been the issue, using the wrong projection axis. Good luck!

Great video. I too have been playing around with this a bit. Another quick way would be to go top ortho view, edit terrain, knife project with road selected to create edges at the correct transition. You could then seperate out that part of the terrain and sub in your road (they will share edge vertices).

I too had an issue right there, the road mesh is now separated from and above the terrain object, but he didn't show how he got there...I was wondering at first if this was the copied road object that was made earlier but it does not look like that's the case. did he disable the shrink wrap modifier on the terrain temporarily in order to do this step? if you just move the road mesh up like this, the terrain will be distorted along with it which is not what we want. does anyone know what happened at this point to go from where we were a few seconds ago to where we are at this point?
@kodiaktimbercraft3939
Жыл бұрын
Or perhaps he applied the shrink wrap modifier so the road mesh could be moved without the modifier adjusting for it? Its hard to tell if the terrain still has the deformations made by the shrink wrap as they are pretty subtle
@kodiaktimbercraft3939
Жыл бұрын
Yes, I think that's exactly what he did even though it was not mentioned anywhere. At about 14:16 he clicks on the terrain again with the modifiers view open and you can see the shrink wrap modifier, the one where he terrain is shrink wrapped to the road, is not in the list any more. so likely that's how you get there. Apply that shrink wrap and then the road can be moved up for the next step where both objects are extruded for the upcoming boolean operations.

Sure - it's the Ctrl + Num+ for example or the Num-. As far as i know you need the Hardops/Boxcutter Addon or the Booltools for this to work. But if everything fails you can just apply a bool modifier to the main object and select the secodary object manually in the modifier. Good?

@@-Dan-665 Hey Killa, hard to tell from afar. Make sure, that your boolean objects are all volumes. Maybe try to move them a little, the boolean might cause problems in certain positions and be corrected when tweaking a little. Hi Antonio. Not really sure, what you mean. If you are not happy with the road layout, then change it :). And if this is too many mountains for you, then pick a more subtle terrain. If you do it right the road should not be tilted, if that's the issue. The process should be working for many different terrain types.
