In this video, we will be doing a number talk for Kindergarten age students. We do a number talk daily in our "Littleland" classroom! Number talks usually run 5-10 minutes long and all students are encouraged to share their math thinking during this time. I have seen a drastic increase in my students overall number sense after doing number talks consistently in the classroom. They are able to "play" with numbers: break numbers apart, and put numbers back together. They are also able to identify similarities and differences in strategies they are using. It is so POWERFUL! I find that number talks not only make my students better problem solvers in math, but in other content areas too!
In this video we use a few tools:
*large foam dice from Five Below
*dry erase paddle board with ten frame and magnetic ten frame counters from Lakeshore
