Just a follow up Todd, any advice on paint correcting a black car? Been trying to remove swirl marks and light scratches with Sonax perfect finish and rupes yellow pad but I can't seem to get a good results. Do you think a 2 stage will do? It's a AMG C43. Thanks

That combination should be capable of a pretty high rate of correction for a one-step. Make sure you're at about speed 4.5, between 12-15lbs of pressure (test it on a set of bathroom scales), small work area about 18x18, 50% overlapping passes, and slow arm movement. With 3 small drops of product, you should be doing 2 sets left to right, and 2 sets up and down.

Great Video I have a black VW Passat. It will be polished and prepped. In your opinion is Opti Gloss Coat better for a novice to put on rather than Gyeon. It is 6 years old. Trying to make it shine again.

Thanks Todd, After say a 1 step polish, yellow pad and perfect finish and a prep wipe down, would you advise a wash of the car to remove any further polish dusting and then a prep wipe down before applying ISM? Thanks
@Esotericdetail
6 жыл бұрын
Only if you feel it necessary. In our shop, we do not do a wash between as we can clean it all up with air, wiping it down with Prep, etc.

Todd, I have a question , I put ceramic coating on mi car , Geon Mohs" but now I want to wrap the roof with 3M vinyl , so my fear is that if I do that maybe I get a bad reaction on the paint with the sun, what are you think about it ,, by the way you and your team are amazing , the best of best , everything looks clean and organized in the videos , amazing job :)

Thank you for the kind words. As for your car, we haven't done direct testing with that combination, however we know of others who have put vinyl on top of coating without any problems.

Todd, What is Esoteric's highest level of paint correction / restoration like? For example something that would take multiple days or perhaps a week. Just and extremely high level detail and paint work.
@Esotericdetail
5 жыл бұрын
Those big projects vary quite a bit, and it depends on what all we are doing to it. We could do a very high level of restorative paint correction in 2-3 days, but if we are doing a lot of work on suspensions, engines, interior, etc., it could add quite a bit of time.

Another fantastic vid Todd, couple of questions, i have a 2yr old vw that had only been to the local ‘wash and scratch’ before i got it. Compounded and polished it to a good level by hand (good exercise lol) but my wife has bought me a DA and ive sent for the rupes DA white kit. Would the yellow be better on the hard dark grey clearcoat and would you try to level the orange peel on the car or just be happy with the gloss. Many thanks
@Esotericdetail

Neither the white or yellow will get rid of the heavier scratching on that hard VW paint. The yellow would be the better option of the two.

@@Esotericdetail thanks for that. No theres no heavy scratching. Just the factory ‘orange peel’ on virtually flawless clearcoat now ive compounded it.Ive ordered the white pack for my da just too keep it very glossy

how many time per year can you 1 step polish without cutting through all the clear coat? also to maintain a car after a car wash i assume you use a combination of coatings or sealant/waxes, but if there any products that polish a car without cutting it in which you can use each time you wash a car ? thanks
@Esotericdetail
4 жыл бұрын
If you're washing and drying correctly, you shouldn't even need to do a one-step polish more than once per year at the absolute most! After washing your car, you should occasionally freshen up whatever kind of protection you have on it (wax, sealant, etc.).

Hi Todd, do you and your employees use the Rupes washer mod on your Rupes LHR15/21 Mark ll or any of your Rupes machines?
@Esotericdetail
6 жыл бұрын
On some of them yes, or we are using the Kamikaze backing plate. A few things to remember: (A) it does NOT require any special washer. (B) it frees up a few RPM, but it does not add 50% more power or any other ridiculous kind of claims you may have heard.

Does a soft finishing pad give you more gloss when compared to a medium cut pad while polishing?
@Esotericdetail
6 жыл бұрын
That's the essence of the test section...depending on the paint...sometimes the softer pad gives better results, and sometimes the harder pad gives better results. We can easily tell using our DOI meter, but sometimes it's not always easy to tell by eye.

After 12 months do I just lay on another coat or two? Does it have to be polished off?
@Esotericdetail
5 жыл бұрын
It does not have to be polished off at that time. Just a good thorough wash with something like Migliore Citro, dry it, then wipe it down a few times with Prep prior to applications.

Does your detailer training include wet sanding?
@Esotericdetail
6 жыл бұрын
No we do not, because for the most part, it's not needed in detailing unless you're dealing with custom painted show cars with heavy levels of clear coat. When dealing with OEM paint...if the defect is too deep to safely remove with normal compounding practices, then it's usually too deep to safely correct, period. We're all about paint preservation! Many detailers think (incorrectly) that they have to sand to remove heavier defects, simply because they haven't been trained on how to achieve a very high level of correction with just a 2-step process.
