Thank you for this! I'm absolutely NOT a mechanically-inclined person, and I've always taken my ST1300 to the shop for even basic service. Thanks to this very clear and helpful video, I just completed my first oil change, and it went without a hitch. I'll never have it done at the shop again.

This can be easier if you change the order. Start with the bike on the side stand. With the bike on the side stand you do not need to remove the lower fairing piece on the bottom, you have ample easy access to both the drain plug and the filter. Buy a kn filter or a filter that has a 17 mm nut built on to the filter. That way all you need is an open end wrench. After the filter has drained remove it, Replace it, then put the bike on the center stand and let the rest of the oil drain out the plug. Once drained, put the plug back in and pour in your new oil tada ! U done !

Give it a try next time. If you put the bike on the side stand, you can access the sump plug and filter easily to remove most of the oil then straighten it up to get the rest. I usually sit on it and read a magazine over a coffee for ten minutes or so.

When you check level are you putting it on the service stand or leaning it on the kick stand still?

I normally put it on the centre stand, or put a piece of wood under the side stand until the bike is up right.

Gave up faired bikes because of the faff with panels. Used Microsoft Excel for service history on all my bikes. Always handy to cross reference and appeals to potential buyers. A Honda man too btw

This is my first, and have to admit once you get past the lower fairing, everything looks daunting. Excel is a great tool, and have used it myself, but the pre-populated drop down menus with the access database won it for me. Any of the big four, make some great bikes, but Honda's are bullet-proof. What Honda do you have?

GTs Garage They are a good bike. Handle well enough and not overly heavy. Plenty of power for the road and I am also a fan of fuel injection. Its one of the few bikes Iv had that I'm happy to keep for the foreseeable

I do like them from the front but was told they are a little unsettled over 80mph but hate the rear end as it looks like a bike maxi scooter.I always love the Kawasaki GTR1400 but it was just way to big and heavy for me being a short ass so ended up with my Yamaha FJR but not sure if you have watched my new Kawasaki VN1600this is what we are going touring on this year, may have to may a detour up your way !mark

There is lot of controversy over the "pan weave" but i have always found her steady as a rock, even over 80. Some say the weave starts and finished between 110 and 120, so the solution has to be to get to 130 as quickly as possible? One of the tubers on here had the 1400, a beautiful bike, and can almost see the tarmac ripple, when giving it some beans :) but i'd probably lose my license on it. Is the 1600 the nomad, and the 1800 the voyager? Both lovely looking bikes, but heard they struggled to make any real power out the box, as i was looking at them last year. The advice i was given, was to make the power, you needed to invest fairly heavily in after market accessories, not sure how true that it. If your up this way, would be rude not to go for a pint or two :)

In my experience with my ST, I’ve only noticed the weave when being around big trucks on the freeway. When approaching to pass, it feels like the draft from them is pushing on the bike all over. It’s steady as a rock around most other vehicles. My Harley Ultra Classic doesn’t notice trucks whatsoever.

From reading a lot of comments about the “ weave” many long time riders seem to agree that it has to do with the back luggage piece behind the seat. Many folks say, that if you don’t have that piece, you don’t get the weave.
