Cute video! I do like the simple squash and stretch effect! The title is a bit confusing though, as IK/FK are typically used for arms and legs, and you mention not to use this techniques for those. Will you be covering that in the future? Thanks as always for the helpful tutorials Ze! :)

Ik Fk is not only used for arm and legs? It just means Inverse Kinematics and Forward Kinematic... "to start to or from 2 different points." I ve been a 3D animator for years, and IK FK was used for any thing that needed to "move from multiple points" like a character holding a prop, or a character's clothing/hair... and yes sometimes limbs. But I really think its a bug misconception that they are inly usesful for limbs, and an even bigger misconception that they are "common for limbs" in 2D softs like Harmony. I thought i said it in the video... but i absolutely hate the use constraints for limbs... and most animators i interacted with so far also do. The title is not t h a t misleading, the goal was to get the people who harrass me for IK FK tutorials to click on it and learn that its not a technique I love/stand by. Haha. MAYBE semi click bait. I shall go in hell i know. X__X But yeah, unless you 're doing some cheap PSA style animation, they are not natural in 2D animation. They work in 3D. But 2D is too much of patching up/ faking it / illusion. Toon boom'searn portal already has the full series of tuts to show how to make the Arm and Legs IK FK anyway, so I don't think i will bother making some. :) Like, I love IK FK for certain things! Like for hair/dresses/bouncy stuff as well as heads n torso tho! Or small creatures like these crabs. But for limbs?? I wouldn't really reccomend it. And thank you!!! I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)

Can't wait for the next vid on constraints. Will you ever be continuing the videos on design for puppet rigging series? I found the first one quite informative and was wondering if there were any other interesting tips and tricks involved.

I would really like to have a simple way of just having a hand or foot stay in place or move with an arm alternatively. Basically not a REAL IK/FK thing but still a sort of switch for both cases :) Maybe you know of a good way? :)

if you watch the video... you'll see my thoughts on using IKFK for foot in 2D animations . . X) aka I don't, reccomend it

Another solid tutorial! I'm curious, does it work on something that has deformers?

I looked at Stephen Iosun's rig demos on youtube, he has IK FK switches for his characters and i can't figure out how he's done it! haha. It doesn't change line weight so I'm assuming it isn't using constraints. I hope one of your parts can shed some light otherwise some of my student loan will have to go on buying his rigs to reverse engineer it! Anyway thanks for the video as always

You say to not use constraints for limbs for IK / FK because it just creates problems. But in your blue bird rig, it has so many two points constraints. Am I misunderstanding something?

Going forward with Toon Boom Harmony 24 (? because they go by year, right?) I hope that the devs can make IK and FK better implemented for rigging. The current system is a mess - not for FK, but for IK. You have to create elaborate gates and switches or sync the layers in an unintuitive way. Rigging IK and FK should be made easier for us riggers. I'm hoping that's something the TBH team takes into consideration.

So if they don't use constraints in Tangled series and use pegs and deformers, do they counter animate the feet to keep them planted?

What a cool tool! I love how that crab bounces, and it very much reminds me of VeggieTales ^^ On a more personal note, I have lost access to Discord until Friday, as my phone’s screen is not working and it is currently at a lab. So if y’all don’t see me on the server ‘till then, that’s why. Just so you know!

Dude, I get that constraints are used for IK and FK, but this video isn't really about IK and FK, it's just a brief overview about constraints 😅gg tho.

It is about IK FK if constraints are used for IK FK and it's a video about Constraints basics! :D (I have 5 minutes per video, I can't make a thesis on every subject each time I make a video)
