How to do Marichayasana
Marichyasana (Seated Twist) is a foundational yoga pose that helps to:
1. Improve spinal flexibility
2. Relieve tension in the neck and shoulders
3. Stimulate digestion
4. Open the hips and chest
Here's how to practice Marichyasana:
1. Sit on the floor with your legs extended in front of you.
2. Bend your right knee and place your foot on the outside of your left thigh, near the knee.
3. Twist your torso to the right, keeping your hips facing forward.
4. Place your right hand on the outside of your left knee, and your left hand on the floor behind you.
5. Gaze over your left shoulder, keeping your spine long and your chest open.
6. Hold for 3-5 breaths, then repeat on the other side.
Remember to:
- Keep your spine long and your core engaged
- Don't force the twist; gentle pressure is enough
- Breathe deeply and smoothly
