Hello - I just wanted you to know - it is because of you that I was able to read how to make a bear for the Rare Bear of Rare Sciences. Without you I would of never known what all the circles and triangles mean. I realize it isn't for clothes but the bear will be loved by a child with Rare Diseases so it is worth it. I just wanted to say THANK YOU! I learn so very much from you! Eve A Ward

Thank you so much! This is something none of the videos I've watched ever discussed, and because I have to always do a FBA, I have jumbo darts. I starting wondering if it was ok to cut away. Thanks for confirming that's a valid technique.

Thank you for another dart drafting technique tutorial. How would the seams of the dart be finished to prevent fabric fraying?

Hi Laura, thank you! I would suggest either lining the garment in this area. Or using an overlocker / serger or overcast stitch along the seam allowances of the dart. You can press the dart seam allowances in one direction and then overlock/serge along the seam allowance, off at the point and then thread the overlocker/serger tails back through the stitching. I have a tutorial that was supposed to be up on Sunday regarding sewing a cut away dart. But I am away in France and having problems uploading my schedule with limited internet (should I done it before I left)! Otherwise it will launch next week when I get home. I have talked about sewing and finishing the seam allowances, I haven't shown overlocking/serging but I could do a video on this too. Aneka x

This is so true! I also use darts on my swimwear patterns and i also use this technique to avoid bulkiness. Very often, people think swimwear doesn’t need darts, however, we include them on most of our patterns so they don’t flaten the body shapes. Do you curve slightly the darty lines? (On the bust area for instance?)

Loving everything that you are sharing. Thank you! Yes, it all depends on the fit/garment. A closer fitting garment I would definitely shape/curve the dart legs. Looser fitting shape, then I don't tend to. 😁

Thank you for this video Hi i have learned to pivot and slash. I have move a side dart to waist but when i sew it for my daughter she is ten i was making the dart at the waist for her school uniform When i iron and try it on her the dart became like a point. And she is not yet developed. I need an advice of what to do please help.

Hi Catherine, Glad the video helped. You want to either reduce the size of the dart or remove it entirely. Darts are designed to fit curves/shape and of course if there isn’t a curve to fit the dart will just sit up like a point. So options: A waist dart can be removed from the side of the bodice. Simply measure the amount of dart at the waist and take it away. Now you may want to remove all the dart, you may want to remove some of it. To make it smaller. 2. Potential issue with above is that there might still be too much for your daughter at the bust. You could try undoing the sewn dart to see if you take the dart bulk at the side seam whether it will fit? If this works then option 1 is of easy to adjust on the pattern and real life garment (if you have already sewn a uniform up). But if it doesn’t work and there is still too much fabric at the bust you might need to do a Small Bust Adjustment to remove the cup size on the pattern and to take it to 0. This video should help with the how to of a SBA: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xHeXzWlooZ2jZqA Let me know how you get on. Hope it helps? Aneka x

@@MadetoSew thank you so much for the help. It's just that there are many videos out there but little info in detail. You just made my day. I am sure it will work for me. I've learned so much from your vidoes. I will surely write what you said down in my note book. Thank you so much Aneka.
