Rukmini you have a lovely house. Is that a mud-earth wall? Glad to see that you're devoting yourself to so many pursuits - dance, language, culture, religion and the built environment. Would love to see a house tour someday!

But tradition speaks wearing a hand-woven silk sari or at least other natural material like linen or cotton preferably all organic. Plus it is sustainable to the earth and completely biodegradable which a georgette or chiffon or any plastic/synthetic mix will never deliver!!! On the top of that pure silk saris carry another level of energy - the karigar/artisan weaves and puts his devotion/bhakti and love into it. It has that rasa and bhava which a stupid syntethic sari will never give you! :) It is cumbersome mathematics, e.g. just see the intricate patterns like that of a patola silk! It's not I'm a barbie girl in a barbie world dressed in plastic.....it's about Natyashastra and all our tradition written by the rishis who lived in harmony with the nature.

Every metre of silk boils alive thousands of silk worms - that’s a lot of killing/violence just because we humans like silk…..I’m not sure “tradition” speaks of wearing a hand-woven *silk* sari 🙄 Perhaps the focus is to wear a simple sari woven by an artisan, locally? Or perhaps the focus is to not even focus that much on appearances? 😬

@@alapadmakalarangam305 I buy "ahimsa silk" once popular in Assam but very few weavers still can and it needs to be revived. In Ahimsa silk, no silkworms are killed! The cocoons used are once in which the silkworm flew out as a butterfly or moth. Therefore weaving ahimsa silk is a real difficult art.

@@alapadmakalarangam305 so using Georgette or chiffon or artificial fabric that don't degrade and actually destroys the soil and ergo kills thousands of microorganisms and thereby affects the entire ecosystem of the earth is alright? It always bemuses me how people easily switch to artificial synthetic material without thinking twice about how it actually does worser things to the existence of this whole cosmos.
