I love making art and I love being surrounded by it. I sit here in my little studio, and it's good for my soul. I never went to art school, so completely self taught. I have no particular style either. One day I might do abstract, next day maybe an animal. I have many, many pieces on my walls. My friends tell me I should sell at local shows, but so far I haven't attempted that. I have just been given a commission to do a forest scene with animals, and I am thrilled, but also nervous about that. So, wish me luck. I have no desire to be a professional painter. I just do it for the love and joy of being a creative soul. I love your videos.

@@authenticmanlymanderson And why do you feel you need to point that out? You were not asked for critique nor did boondoggy2 say anything about being a writer or even wanting to be one. The title of the video is deceptive: being able to draw better than 99% of people is not the same thing as making more money than 99% of artists. The free PDF isn't free either, because you have to provide your e-mail address, something for which you will no doubt end up paying a price. But what if you don't give a damn about making money, and just want to learn to draw?
@driesketels

Apparently you're not the only one that thinks the title is clickbait. I don't believe it's clickbait. I believe focusing on value is the only way to draw better. Value is the only thing that exists and the only thing that people care about when looking at a piece of art. And yes the PDF's are obviously free, there are no strings attached. Speaking of free. You are also free to get advice from other sources. Good luck with your endeavors, wish you the best.

To many people, 'value' (worth) and 'money' (cost) are two distinctly different things and generally unrelated - to the wise among us. I already know this. I wanted to gain a tip or two on how to 'draw better' than 99% of people. The rant was entertaining nonetheless.

Good points. I'd like to say that as much as tapping into the perspective of art collectors can be beneficial to success in the art world, I'd rather not try make art solely for the bragging rights of those collectors. That would only encourage the existing dominant behavior or the upper class. However, providing a distinquished identity or art style that can be recognisable and not copied from other works that are already successful is definitely value and worth focusing on. It is completely intrinsic as it is centered on expressing who you are as a unique one of a kind person on this planet.

That's how you grow wealth in general, not just with art. The greater value you can show people you provide them, the more they will pay you. A standard 9 to 5 job that anyone can do, or even among a collection of people with the same skills, is only going to be able to get paid for the determined value of that job. But someone that proves that their contribution will greatly increase the value through their efforts will be paid a lot more. Look at acting, look at what Scarlet Johansson early career vs what she got paid for her last Marvel movie. She proved to be a value to the franchise, so her pay for her work ballooned. It's why woodworking craftsman and get paid a lot of money just to custom build a chair versus the guy that does woodworking on the weekends.

Thanks for another GREAT video, Dries! I think it's important to ask ourselves the right questions. Do I want to sell my art? Yes. For millions? Not necessarily. Do I want to be proud of what I'm painting or drawing? Absolutely. It's actually maybe the most important to me to stay aligned with my artistic values. I will not paint things that I don't enjoy or not pride of just to access money and fame. Otherwise i would have chosen another path 😅

100% correct sir- price is about the "intellectually superior" namely those that have the "money" to show off wealth. Hey man , so what ? The herd (proletariat) can only appreciate chocolate box paintings and don't feel that they have the need to "intellectualize" deeper meanings from "A*****orifice " art and dazzle other proletariat with their erudite repertoire of nonsense . Beautiful art will always be beautiful . greetings from Cape Town South Africa

The hypocrisy of this guy is hilarious! He basically says that the school system is flawed because the teacher only cares about your work because they are getting paid. Then he goes on to provide links to learn how to sell your art and become a success by paying him! I've watched several of his videos and basically the only skill he has is being good at BSing and approaching art in a souless, cash grab way.
