A lot of the comments are wondering what colors he used, so I paused to take a look at each pencil and what it read. Cherries: Crimson Red (924) Terra Cotta (944) Poppy Red (922) Black (935) Blush Pink (928) White (938) Stem/Leaf: Chartreuse (989) Yellow Ochre (942) Black (935) Spring Green (913) Lemon Yellow (915) (I think) Yellowed Orange (1002) (I think) Crimson Lake (925) (I think) Note: I couldn't really see which colors he used towards the end, hence the "I think," but I tried them and they turned out pretty good.

This isn’t a beginner tutorial. For those of us who’ve been painting and drawing for years know what he’s doing and why, and which colors he’s using and why. I’ve never used colored pencils, nor have I much experience drawing/painting fruit - but I do have decades of painting experience so once I learn the basics of using the colored pencil as a medium, I can go straight into an advanced lesson, which this is. While watching, I’m mentally translating what I see into watercolor, oil, and pastels, bringing my experience with those into how I’ll recreate this image, thus knowing what pencils and paper I’ll need, and about how many hours it will take to complete. I’ll pause/rewind as necessary. I appreciate him not talking as well as not using real-time, so I can think while I watch, and get a good feel for the rhythm he keeps in order to not take days to finish. I appreciate the reminder to use a protective sheet of paper; as well I appreciate seeing how much burnishing he does - and doesn’t - use. He doesn’t use a solvent. He does use the white gel pen I have; and I think I saw a graphite pencil for a shadow, but I’ll have to check that out when I watch it again whilst I work on this project. It was interesting to see him use a pink pencil over a light coating of red, then white over that, instead of just white over red - of course that makes for much better depth of color and form. I’ve now learnt not only how to produce a detailed, realistic painting of cherries in colored pencil, but also the same in the other mediums I use. No grousing, friend artists. This is a fine tutorial, and the correct comment is THANKyou for this and the time you took to make it. Regards, Linda

Nice drawing - BUT - what brand of pencil, which pencil was used at each point and why. No voice over to explain what was being done. It is understood that time lapse would be needed but without any information this is not really step by step and not really a tutorial is it? More of a time lapse of how you draw realistic cherries.

Personally, I am not a Prismacolor fan...give me Faber Castell or Caran D'ache any day...however you choose to render the cherries, it's usually a good idea to go through your pencils and make a color chart for those you consider using. It allows you to adjust your choices BEFORE you devote time, energy, and "resources" to any drawing. I appreciate the "tutorial", "demonstration", "time-lapse drawing"...whatever. It is a marvelous gift you've offered!

Sometimes it can be helpful not to know the exact colors/pencils used. While not great for a beginner, those who are slightly more advanced need to learn the relationships between colors and will likely learn more by noticing one color has a lighter tone and more orange than the previous color. It also helps you use the same techniques for darker or lighter cherries. Although I enjoy the tutorials with the exact colors and they can be very helpful, I don’t think they teach you color relationships as well as one like this.

This is a fine tutorial. Thank-you for taking the time to make it. For those of you remarking about a lack of pencil brand and color names, as well as the speed and lack of commentary - this is not a beginner artist lesson. He has done this for artists who likely have enough experience in this or other mediums to know what colors he’s using and on what kind of support. This will be my first colored pencil painting, but not my first painting or first years of painting, I have all the necessary supplies already. When I knew I wanted to learn colored pencil techniques, all I (or any experienced artist) had to do was learn the basics, get the same supplies as I have in other mediums, and begin. It mayn’t turn out as good as his on my first go, but that’s what practice and experimenting is for. Have courage and the confidence to lean on the experience you already have to create a painting like this. If you don’t have the experience, then take some classes and you’ll be fine.

@Chase13736

A tutorial implies that the tutor is giving instruction during a demonstration. There is no instruction whatsoever. Just a time-lapse of the artist illustrating cherries. There is nowhere in the video or title or description saying that this is a advanced level lesson. Once again, a lesson implies something is being taught and once again nothing is being taught here. The title is misleading and for you to say "For those of you remarking about a lack of pencil brand and color names, as well as the speed and lack of commentary - this is not a beginner artist lesson" is absolutely ridiculous and quite honestly, rude and inconsiderate for the people that are honestly trying to learn. There is no instruction, There is no explanation of what exact colors or techniques used, There's no explanation of anything, just man drawing and coloring cherries. So maybe you should be a little more considerate and not be so rude when making a comment on a that has a misleading title. Ill leave you with a definition of the word "Tutorial" just so you know what it actually means before you make another ridiculous comment. tu·to·ri·al t(y)o͞oˈtôrēəl/ adjective adjective: tutorial 1. relating to a tutor or a tutor's instruction. "tutorial sessions" noun noun: tutorial; plural noun: tutorials 1. a period of instruction given by a university or college tutor to an individual or very small group.
