When I took a college art class we were working on self reference and drawing from a mirror (like you mentioned). Everyone was doing a basic expression, but I wanted to challenge myself so I scrunched up my whole face with furrowed brows, a scrunched nose, and a small, tight mouth. I got some funny looks and a laugh from the instructor, but I loved it! Also, I really appreciated the tip on teeth! I never thought of it that way and hope that will help me out in the future. And one last thing, when laying out the face I start same as you, with the head construction, but then I choose to do the eyebrows and nose next. I do this for two main reasons: 1. Because people are less recognizable without their eyebrows than they are without their eyes and 2. The lines for the brow flow into the lines for the nose and when I break up the steps between brow and nose I lose that flow.

I’m gonna go ahead and shamelessly plug Jazza’s e-books, too. My girlfriend purchased them for me as an early Christmas present, and I have to say that the quality of content in these e-books is astounding. While Jazza’s past and current tutorials are super helpful, his e-books add layers of instruction above the video tutorials. Plus the reference packs are invaluable. So if you’re looking for a place to start or improve in your drawings, buy his e-book packs. You’ll help yourself and help support Jazza to continue doing what he’s doing.

Really great video. I feel like the tips are accurate and helpful to a lot of artists. I think a good point to bring up is how artistic style effects detail. If you look at animated cartoons or comics, you can see how differently people and objects are perceived. Look at something like Spongebob compared to King of the Hill- completely different styles of drawing. I guess my own advice is to use the tips given in a way that fits with your artistic style. If you do too much or too little, it could make your art look off. Like he said, it's a process and a journey, so experiment, but find the right balance between detail and style.
