Drawing the head is simple with the Loomis method. This simple structure helps you draw the head from ANY angle. See more examples in the full video, below the title of this Short!
For this exercise, we are going to give our portrait delightfully kissable lips.

This is a great practice! The only question I have is... How would this work on an anime style? It may sound weird to think of it differently, but anime is usually very different from most styles. Would the guidelines differ? Just thought I might throw this question out there. 🙂
@ProkoTV
13 күн бұрын
This is a common question! The Loomis head is an average. You use it as a baseline to modify and change as needed. There may be some proportional changes, depending on the type of character but the core principles of how you indicate placement of the features, define the angle of the head and more will remain the same.

A lot of these little tutorials are very useful. So far though I have yet to see a tutorial that suggests it would be a good idea to learn something about anatomy and placement and perspective. Without that kind of knowledge being put in place by the artist, all the little tricks in the world aren't going to mean a damn thing.

So, how do you know how big to make the circle on the side of the head? Also, speaking of the Loomis method, how can one best study the book? Some of the "plates" have more complex images than later ones. Also, your name is Stan Prokopenko, right? Is the "Stan" short for Stanislav? 😅
@ProkoTV
3 ай бұрын
The oval will always be 2/3 the height of the sphere that is the cranium. I recommend picking up one of his books if you want to study from one. There are digital and physical versions available from several publishers. And yep! Stanislav.
@matthewdavis9437
3 ай бұрын
@@ProkoTV Regarding the second question, I already own his book. I was asking how to use his Head and Hands book. Some of the "plates" in it are more advanced then others. Do I not study them in order?
@ossasslaye13yearsago14

This is a lot easier than drawing a 2d portrait using a circle, making a 2 perpendicular lines across, and adding details, because the 3d one has more guidelines, if you just know what the facial features look like, and put some effort into it while being decent at drawing, you can definitely do this
