i recently found your channel and i really have to appreciate you. there's a lot of comic art channels that do the same thing and i don't learn anything in the end. the way you explain the potential processes and basic of each art style you cover is really enlightening.

Thank you so much for the kind words Philip! That is absolutely what I intend when I make these videos - I want to make all of comic art accessible, and not being just a video of me drawing an not really explaining how to truly do it yourself. Like you say - it's a potential process, it's the way I think something is done but it could be done probably 1000 different ways, so if my way helps even 1 person then the video is worth it. 😁

Joe's work has always struck me as a perfect fusion of western comic style and manga style. More than anything it reminds me of 90s Capcom fighting game artwork. Lash, especially, makes me think of Akuma in the Street Fighter Alpha anime OVAs.

Ive always been super curious about how joe does his coloring. I absolutely adore the fact that his art isnt completely inked in but you can see the pencil lines over the colors. Digitally i wonder how that effect is made
@LearnComicsWithPancake
3 ай бұрын
Well in these 3 issues - they weren't actually inked suprisingly! Not digitally or traditionally 🤯 I'm not sure if it was a style decision, budget constraints or what. So Marte Gracia - the colourist (amazing work!) took the pencils, just upped the contrast a little and then digitally painted behind them 🤗

Your comprehensive breakdowns on famous artists' work is so well explained, in-depth and easy to understand. I forsee your channel gaining much traction in the art community. We can indeed learn SO much from the industry titans like this and I'm glad your channel is encouraging beginners like myself to do that more. Also, I really like your mic, it looks so professional like everything on your channel. I hope you're doing well.

I dont think he knew about the loomis method in high school in the early days of internet and well before KZitem. He is self taught from watching the early small trickle we got of anime, manga, and of course comic books. He also interned at marvel during high school and had access to all the art history stored there.

If you cover rendering for joe mad I think it will be of great value, people now render more in color and there for the pencils looks very simple. But with joe mad this does not happens just the pencils are great and he has a totally different approach than jim lee or greg capullo. I have a humble opinion that you can do the same sequence that you did for jim lee and get it apply to joe mad. Example. Body, face, hair, rendering. Ryan Benjamin explained a little bit of the rendering but for each artist it's different and really takes time to learn from them. Anyhow we value your incredible effort.
@LearnComicsWithPancake
3 ай бұрын
I agree - it would be great to explain from a Joe perspective because his rendering is *vastly* different to Jim's, and would be great to explore! The next video is Joe's special effects (fire, water, smoke etc), then I was planning on doing hair followed by his rendering to complete the set. I am tempted to do one on his backgrounds as well, as they are simple but really effective! Thank you for being such a big Joe Mad fan, it inspired me to look into his work and now he is in my top 5 of all time :D

Here a tip, about faces, he uses animal features in some characters. For example if you draw the eyes of a tiger the cheeks the nose and then you add a human mouth then you understand why when some characters are mad the eyes seems to be farther apart that for regular humans. You can also check some old drawing of ludo lullaby and the way he draw noses. Not todays art, but from the past comics he was doing for Warcraft. 🎉 hope for a video of Humberto ramos on Fairy quest, it was awesome because it is a critic to Marvel

A few people have mentioned that he was inspired by 90's Fighting Games, so there are definitely hints. I don't feel like they are straight ripped, but I know very little about 90's fighting games other than vague nostalgia of playing them on PS1 many many moons ago in the 90s haha.
@mcruz4571

Is not appropriation !!!, Joe does not claim the style for himself or say that the style is his invention....he takes inspiration from the style, specifically from the movie "Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie"...like many other artists.....under the logic of "appropriation" "Avatar the last airbender" or any American animation or comic with an "Anime/manga" style, would be appropriation... that's not how it works my friend.
