Because follows the guidelines that make up a standard manga character.You know,rectangular eyes,minimalistic nose, etc. Most modern animation borrow at least some traits from manga so the confusion is rather common

Hey I'm an artist who loves to draw but i do more American style drawings. Anyways I noticed that you started from the head down to the body. I think it's better to start with the body and then spread out to the head. That way you pay more attention to the anatomy and pose of the figure rather than the face. That's just how i do it and it really helps.

It's so difficult to draw heads and bodies and actually make the drawings look alive. Mine always end up looking really akward and emtionoless...But i am working hard so that one day my drawings will be able to look as good as your's ^_^
