Sweet suggestions. Playing quieter has been a goal of mine for a few years now and I actually practice all of these tips you suggest in this video and they do help.

Mostly correct! I have some contradictory impressions regarding the relative loudness of those named wood types in shells, and shoulder-of-stick on cymbal results in more noisy wash and less stick definition. But yes, controlling the transfer of mass and force can make any set less loud. It is more the drummer than the instrument. Taking away all damping and muting and hearing-protection while practicing will more easily develop your quiet technique. Burn those horrible rods!

Nice tips! The most annoying thing about this, imho, is that you'll have to choose different sounds from what people expect. If you're playing famously known loud rock songs on a small venue, for example, won't be so convincing to play the hihat with the tip of the drumstick. But that will maybe be the only option...

Yeah I hear you. You could always bring down the stick height but again that not always the best option either. Its all about the trade offs
