I appreciate these videos so much. I live in an area full of nail “chop shops”. I can’t count how many times my friends and I have had rings of fire, burns, cuts... a nail tech filed completely through a spot on my nail plate and the skin beneath with an efile. He blamed it on me for yanking my hand away in pain. This is why I’ve spent years teaching myself to do nails. Thanks to wonderful people like you, I’m learning to create not only beautiful nails, but structurally sound nails in a safe manner. Thank you so much!

Elise Lebens-Bohn omg. Me too. I’ve never had my nails done where I didn’t experience the same thing and/or didn’t have to reshape them myself. I get asked where I get my nails done. I always tell them “the kitchen table salon”. 😂

My sister was at one of these places and the put a drill through the nail plate into the nail bed. The nail came away from the nail bed almost totally detached. I could not get her to go to a doctor. I have been doing her nails for a year and we have it healing and growing out now. She told me one of the nail techs slapped her, she said he acted like he was high. She asked to see his license but they would not produce it. Rings of fire on a client that came to me. Cheap price cheap and dangerous work. Support the good salons, go where operators treat you with respect.

Great video, can't wait to hear more behind your efile techniques along with the bits. The salon I'm in currently soaks the gel polish off in a soak bowl versus the aluminum foil and cotton technique. At first I thought it was all fine and dandy until I started having clients show signs of Onycholysis along with issues of nails curling and occasional sensitivity when it comes to the scraping removal process. I would like to stray away from the soaking form of Gel polish removal and "upgrade" to the efile but I'm incredibly nervous. I do have a tendency to be heavy handed per experience on myself and my clients say so. I'm comfortable removing gel polish off of enhancements but when it comes to the natural nail my anxiety goes through the roof. I feel this exercise will help me tremendously but, I'm sure anxiety will hit once it comes to trying it on someone other than myself and the practice hand. Will you continue to show more prepping techniques with the efile? I so look forward to the notifications of your new videos on Mondays! Thanks again, I've learned so much through your videos...it always helps to refresh on the basics no matter how long you've been doing nails.

I remember having trouble seeing the basecoat too when learning to efile. I found that sanding bands and standard metal bits created a different texture (since it grinds off product) and had a much easier time when I switched to ceramic bits and then an even BETTER experience with a carbide bit similar to one Liz used above. You'll also have an easier time seeing the basecoat if you use two coats; it will be more apparently thicker and different compared to the surface of the natural nail.

Great video as always. I have learned a lot of things from your videos, so thank you for doing all of this. I just finished a nail course about doing nails in general. I took it so I can get sertified to do nails and to get a better filing on doing fake nails, learn how to use an e file and working on other people's hand. So far I've just been doing my nails. I was really scared of the e file. I still am a bit but I have to admit through this course when I did my cuticles and removed products from my nails I was surprised of how different and maybe better it was doing it this way. My cuticles never looked like this and removing product was so much easier, I have trouble doing it with acetone it takes so much time. I definitely ruined on of my nails with the e file I got a ring of fire in it, didn't notice it at the time but when I built a nail in this finger the wait of the product hurts my nail. I bought recently an e file to practice and that's why I rewatched your videos I find them very helpful, I like that you talk about everything. I have a question in the class that I attended we used a ceramic bit to remove product. I was thinking of buying one just like it, I tried using a carbine on but I didn't really manage to do much with it and I was afraid that I will cut myself. So my question is can a ceramic bit be used in the same way as the one that you are presenting here?

Thank you for your wonderful tutorials! I already learned so much. :) I still have questions about the e-file speed, you recommended to use it on the highest speed setting when filing off product, but I have heard other instructors say to never use the highest setting because it can be too powerful and hot on the nail. It probably depends on the e-file, but some cheap ones sound really awful at high speeds, very loud. And some "only" have 20.000 RPM maximum and some even have 35.000. I'd be afraid to use those at the highest speeds. Is there an RPM range you would recommend for filing off product? Does it depend on the hardness of the gel or the type of bit or both? Are there any indicators that we can look out for which tell us when the right speed is reached?
@TheNailHub
5 жыл бұрын
High speed light touch is the way to go with this type of bit and this type of service. It depends on the bit and what you are filing on. If this were a natural nail or skin it would not be the same process.

I have on gel nails that are about 6 weeks old now and am quickly studying how to do my own nails during this interim. Supplies for even simple things like isopropyl alcohol are taking weeks to months for delivery and of course are sold out in stores. My question: if I am trying to do my own nails thereby needing to switch from right to left hands to file off product, do I need to purchase both a right-handed and left-handed bit if that is how they come. I think you said that this bit featured can be used by either. A current video focusing on doing our own nails during this time would be helpful and maybe calming at the same time. Yes for removal I always do full speed and a light touch unless I am getting into thinner areas around the cuticle. Then I will swap bits and go slower. But for this type of bit full speed works the best because it helps the bit glide. I use several different bits and different speeds to complete a full set of nails.
