Hey. First of all, very nice video! Your editing is nice and crisp and I like how you present the information. This video reminded me of another video I saw which talked about this same topic.... Am I correct in assuming that there will be a collab soon with That Medic? ;) Well I wanted to ask something. You told about locum junior docs and how they are necessary due to the immense amount of work that is there. But if there are less junior doctors, then wont there be less consultants as well? Do consultants also do locum work like this with increased per hour pay? ( Of course depending on their specialty's availability). Surely there must be lot of shifts like that since consultants are the one who generally decide course of treatment in hospitals :I
@Kiran.Morjaria

I’d love to but I think he’s a different league at the moment! I’m referring to locum ‘SHO’ doctors although I should have clarified this. Consultants can do locum shifts, paid at an even higher rate than normal consultant shifts (can get £100/hr as a locum consultant)

@@Kiran.Morjaria I think you are also up in the game! Your subs will definitely improve :). Great video!!Are locum doctor and non training doctors the same?
@Kiran.Morjaria

Hey, locum doctors are not the same as non-training doctors. Most junior non training doctors are employed as ‘clinical fellows’ so more security, but pay similar to FY2 level

Yes but obviously limited hours - plus you need time off otherwise it becomes a bit too much. I occasionally take the odd shift here and there

Can you be a locum and a doctor in training at the same time?

Yes you can, but in training you do a lot of hours (weekends/nights) so the amount of time you can work as a locum is very little

Hi I wonder your thoughts about which places in the Uk(apart from London) will be possibly lack of locum positions/shifts in the near future? 3-5 years from now? cities or generally speaking, parts such as south, midlands or north or wales etc . I am asking it because I am an IMG who is interested in Locum and choosing a city is important for possible future situations of mine. Thank you.
@Kiran.Morjaria

Generally more shifts are available in undersubscribed areas, these are usually more rural areas & outside of cities. However in the next 5 years there will continue to be locum shifts everywhere

If you locum in surgery, are you destined to be spending your time covering the wards or do you actually get to scrub in?
@Kiran.Morjaria
3 жыл бұрын
It depends, if you’re taking off shifts then definitely you’ll be stuck on the wards. If you’re on a full rota at a good hospital you will get theatre time but those jobs are much harder to come by

@Kiran.Morjaria
3 жыл бұрын
Hey man it completely depends, the systems are so different. I have experience in working in the UK which I'd recommend but I've never worked as a doctor in America. As far as I am aware, the hours are longer but the pay is better but you've got the issue of health insurance too
@faizanahmed5368

Thanks, appreciated! But over all where it would be better to do the residency? UK or USA?

@@faizanahmed5368 If you've 15-20 lacs which are required for this whole USMLE process plus you are confident enough that u'll hack the interviews.. then in my opinion, residency in US is a better option for long term.

Hey man, I'm a UK graduate so I'm not sure about COS, I'm not sure you can but you should look into it. I've used a few and it depends what area you're in, the one I used the most was called "Holt Doctors".

Hi there, We currently live in the UK (London) and we moved here 5 years ago. My wife worked as a doctor in Brazil and in order to start her career as a doctor here in the UK, she had to pass some exams, which she has successfully done. At the moment, she is having enormous difficulty getting an interview and it seems that the main reason for rejection is the fact that she has no previous experience in the NHS. I would like to know if you offer any kind of coaching in this regard? We wouldn't mind paying for the service of course. Thanks Thanks
@Kiran.Morjaria
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Murillo, I don’t specifically have any coaching on this regard. I can only suggest applying for a less senior position as a doctor so that she can get the NHS experience and then work at the level she was at before once she’s more settled in the system
