I'm here because my daughter's hair gets knotted really easily (I shave my head so this is out of my element) But I wanted to explain why things were not end up knotted (hair and headphones etc) Its simple statistics. Imagine each hair is a data point. Each hair can be straight from the or a trillion versions of twisted and curled and knotted. So there are far more possible outcomes where a hair or cord isn't straight than outcomes where a hair is straight. Even when hair starts out straight, each interaction with the hair can change its position from straight to unstraight. As the day and life goes on hair becomes more and more tangled because it's more probable for a hair to be in that state than it is to be in a straight line. Imagine you have a bunch of 100 sided dice. The number 1 represents a straight hair and the other 99 represent variations where the hair is not straight. Now throw 1,000 of these. It's almost impossible that if you made that roll all of the dice would land on a 1 so they'd be "tangled" but you can interact with the dice and place them all at 1 to untangle them. But if you randomly roll some of the dice through out the day it will reach a tangled state again. So statistics are why things get tangled.

Well he’s detangling in sections so he’s twisting them to begin with to separate the sections of detangled and matted hair. Then he untwists to apply deep conditioner and then divides each section into two to have smaller more defined twists
