Hi, thank you for clearly defining the difference between paralysis, astral projection, and lucid dreaming. This was incredibly helpful. I usually experience any of these three states of mind and have had trouble distinguishing the three. Hopefully I can use this to help me more effectively induce these states. I would love to reach out to you to have a conversation on this subject and share some of my experiences and hopefully gain some insight.

@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
Oh you are not alone! I know this first hand! The best thing I can recommend is to try not to focus on it. Because if we believe it'll mess us up if we need to swallow, it most likely will. Sometimes, I am in the state so deep I don't even notice. So I try to find that state of mind. But I do notice that laying on your side helps with this issue. I can lay on my back until I am ALMOST in sleep paralysis, then I will roll on my side. My body thinks I am going to sleep since I rolled over but I intend to keep my mind awake through this process. I hardly notice any issues with the swallowing aspect when I'm on my side. But try a few different positions with propping your head on a pillow if it still is an issue. I really hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions!

I sometimes have a problem going from SP to a lucid dream, I get a sensation similar to falling but is probably better described as gravity pulling me through the bed or couch, depending on where I'm sleeping. Typically, a shroud of blackness will slowly surround me as I'm "sucked" downward into the ground, sometimes the blackness is lit with starlight and sometimes it's just a growing black hole that consumes me as I watch the room I'm in grow distant. Inevitably, once this process starts, I know I'm doomed to "jolt" awake once the darkness has fully set in, so I'm neither able to enter a lucid dream nor fall asleep. Any thoughts on this?
@scottj719
4 жыл бұрын
I find that unlike regular meditation, focusing on the breath connects you too much to physical sensations in the body I don't ever get to anything like a paralysis, I end up getting imagery and spend time with that. It seems like Lucid Lite version or something. I have good control over things, good presence of mind but only a light merging into the dream state. I kind of cycle back and forth between first person in a dream experience and back to disengaged in third person visualizing again. And back and forth.

Do I keep my eyes closed the whole time or do I open them after the rolling signal? Please respond
@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
I would definitely try to keep your eyes closed because the goal here is to trick our body into thinking we are asleep. So I would close your eyes and try to find a fixed point that you can look at with your eyes closed. Try to see DEPTH in the darkness behind your eyelids. The best way I can explain it is to try not to see it as a black wall. See it as a forest with depth that you can look into. This will speed up the process of sleep paralysis and as long as you let your body breathe in the rhythm it wants to breathe in, and you rest your eyes naturally while trying to remain still, you should be able to reach this state. I hope this helps :)

When you explained how it all works and feels like, I realized that I’ve done it before, mainly on accident. I do it when I’m sick (like I am today) and go to sleep, I actually either have hallucinations, I astral project, or I form my dreams out of nowhere, and the thing is, I don’t even TRY! I feel like sickness is an easy gateway to the world of astral projections, lucid dreams, sleep paralysis, and more! Maybe it’s just me, but it feels weird.
@TheLucidMystic
4 жыл бұрын
No that makes sense! Maybe when you're not feeling the best, your mind is slightly more aware which makes it easier to have the experiences. That's why when your sleep schedule is off, or you are stressed, you tend to have these experiences. It Makes sense why they would happen in this situation as well! It's awesome it just happens spontaneously!! That's super interesting though!! Keep it up and let me know if you have any more experiences!

Is there a specific position I should lay? About how long are each of these phases (rollover signal, etc.)
@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
The easiest way I find to induce these states is on my back; but you'll want to lay in a position that is comfortable for you, but not one that you usually sleep in. Sometimes, I will lay on my back just to induce the very strong relaxation and the hypnogogia. Then I will turn on my side. If I can keep awareness, I will go into sleep paralysis. But it definitely depends on the individual; it can be induced on your back and side. But definitely lay in a position that will be easiest to keep a sliver of awareness in :) A lot of people find success on a couch or sofa because their brain doesn't associate that place with sleep, so it's easier to stay slightly awake :) The duration of these phases is different for everyone, but I notice the roll over signal can be up to about 15 minutes long. You'll know when you reach this state. You will feel very heavy, start to see images, and get a very intense feeling to itch or move. If you can hold out and trick your body into thinking you're sleeping, it should pass quickly and you should be in sleep paralysis (the vibrational state) :) I hope this helps!

@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
No, you're totally fine! It's a very good question. I wondered this as well at first; and what I have found is that if you keep your eyes closed, you will eventually start to see through your closed eyes/sleeping mask. So you don't need to worry about opening your eyes because once you are in that state, you can automatically see. Through these experiences, we use our mind's eye; so we don't need our physical vision. If you are wanting to use it for an out of body experience, focus on a fixed point behind your vision and try to imagine the sensation of moving your body. If you are using this for a lucid dream, vividly imagine the dream you want to appear into; walk yourself through the scenario. Does this answer your question? :)

Will sleep paralysis work in the morning or should I try at night instead
@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
Sleep paralysis is highly effective in the mornings! We go into our longest, deepest REM stage in the early hours of the morning, so that is an amazing time to try. Plus, trying in the morning makes it less likely that you will fall asleep since you just went through all of your deep sleep stages throughout the night. I usually try this either two hours before I normally wake up or once I wake up after staying awake for 10ish minutes :)

I used to get sleep paralysis. It was terrifying and always difficult to break out of. I felt like I had no control. But as a kid I slept adequate, regular hours, uninterrupted, without any meals too close to bed or having any real stress. Now that I don't get enough sleep, and sleep irregular hours, and interrupted, and have loads of stress in my life, I NEVER get it anymore. For nostalgia and experimentation I thought it would be interesting to experience it again, but somehow my wanting it to happen and trying to induce it had the effect of preventing it completely. Ironically, any attempt to induce it resulted in BAD insomnia which lasted a long time, which also is supposed to help cause sleep paralysis. And in a way it sort of did - almost - but they were such brief and mild compared to the truly terrifying ones that grip you in it for a longer duration that they paled by comparison and were too easy to wake up from. Ultimately not worth the months of agony the insomnia itself caused. So, any advice to someone who seems unable to get it when all the conditions seem prime to induce it? And when I try it backfires into insomnia?
@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, I would love to give you some tips that I think may be useful to you. First, we should look up setting up our nighttime practice correctly to avoid insomnia as much as possible. Here are my tips for insomnia: 1. No heavy meals before bed (As you already mentioned). Our body cannot focus on multiple things at once, so it will be too busy digesting food and will have a hard time falling asleep. 2. Avoid Melatonin Supplements. They contain way too much melatonin in such a small condensed supplement, making it difficult for our body to break down. This will disrupt our sleep cycle. I would recommend taking Valerian root an hour before bed. This is an all-natural supplement you can get on Amazon and it has DRASTICALLY improved my insomnia along with my clients insomnia. 3. Have more Tryptophan in your diet. Tryptophan is a substance naturally found in foods that the body turns into natural melatonin which promotes restful sleep. Since it is from a natural source, the body takes what it needs and disregards the rest. Tryptophan can be found in almonds/almond milk, dark cherries/dark cherry juice, mushrooms, cheese, and pistachios. Even eating a handful of pistachios before bed has more natural melatonin than a supplement. How cool is that! 4. Meditation. Meditating even 5 minutes before bed will drastically improve your sleep. Your quieting your mind, inducing relaxation and telling your body/brain it is time to shut down. 5. Don't use electronics/blue lights at least 2 hours before bed. Blue light is produced from artificial light seen in technology that stimulates the brain, keeping us awake. Try to do calming activities before bed like writing, reading, etc. This will help your body shut down naturally since we are aligned with our Circadian Rhythm. 6. Exercise each day. This is the easiest way to tire our bodies out naturally. Your body will be so ready for sleep that you will be able to completely relax in bed. Try doing any exercise you would like, (I like Yoga and Tai Chi), and you'll see a major improvement in your sleep. 7. Don't Engage in the "RollOver" signal. A lot of people tend to have insomnia because they keep engaging with the Rollover Signal. The Rollover signal is your body's way to check if you are awake or asleep; so it will send you itches, urgers to move and roll over, etc. If we engage and respond to these signals, the body will know we are still awake and won't produce the chemicals that put us to sleep. If you have the urge to itch, move, or roll over, try to trick your body into thinking you're asleep by relaxing and hold still. This state should pass fairly quickly and will be easy to drift off into sleep. The next thing I would recommend is to make it easy. Don't concentrate so hard on TRYING To have the experience, but just see it as a time to relax. Really appreciate the time you get to even relax and meditate. This helps let go of resistance and creates spontaneous experiences. If you haven't checked out my other videos, I go into how to induce a lucid dream an astral projection from sleep paralysis if that would be helpful to you :) I hope this helps!
@anthonyastronomer7829
5 жыл бұрын
@@TheLucidMystic Thanks so much! I do want to clarify, though, that I currently don't have insomnia. I last had it in 2015, my worst yet, and it took almost a year to get fully over it, by which I mean I no longer would get into bed and think "gee, I hope I am over this now." The problem is that all but one of my insomnia experiences were triggered (or SEEMED to be triggered) by me attempting to induce lucid phenomena, whether an OBE or SP to experiment with it as a gateway to LD, etc. It would seem to backfire, and so I find that I need to consciously NOT desire to experience such things, simply because any hope or expectation of them results in my mind being TOO vigilant and staying awake. So I'm more complicated than simply avoiding the roll over signal, not that I'm sure I ever even experienced it as described. Unfortunately, just "waiting for it to happen" without consciously trying to induce it DOESN'T result in it spontaneously happening and me being able to take advantage of it when it does. Despite all my childhood experiences with sleep paralysis, I can't seem to stumble across anything remotely like it anymore. Makes me wonder if I even have the same brain as when I was a kid! I no longer take melatonin. I occasionally took Valerian until I ran out. Just a few supplements now (B12, magnesium). I still eat too close to bedtime and am often sleep deprived, and though I tell myself that the "benefit" of this is that it might render me susceptible to SP or other weirdness, so far no dice. Makes me wonder how I ever got it when I did as a kid, and terrifying it was!

This is a cool video. I have had lucid dreams every night for pretty much my all of my life and lately when I open my eyes right when a dream ends I can still see the dream or different patterns. One time I had a dream about spiders and after it was over I woke up and opened my eyes i could see spiders coming out of my walls and out of this wooden beam that's in my room. It was so cool I wonder if this was sleep paralysis or something else. Any one have something similar happen?
@TheLucidMystic

That usually happens because the mind is still half-dreaming (similar to sleep paralysis). The reason why we see these hallucinations after we wake up from a dream or during sleep paralysis is that half of our conscious mind is deactivated and our dreaming mind is still active. That's a really cool experience and I have definitely experienced similar things. Even with sounds from the dream! I tend to still hear the dream being played out once I open my eyes from a dream. Super interesting!

First I thought "oh no another wishy washy new ager with her rainbow stuff in the background and looking like a hippie" but this was actually very useful advice on SP as a portal and reminds me of how I actually did lucid dream the first time exactly like this, through SP, also having that tactile urge of getting out of my body was my only OBE:s / "astral" travels I guess, apart from DMT. So in short, as a gateway, focus on visuals in SP for lucid dreams and focus on the tactile sensation, especially of getting up without moving the body, to have OBE? I used to have so much SP before, and first scary but then I learned to control them (with prayer), but then they just went away, but so did my lucid dreams sort of, well now they are semi-lucid remnants of such, where I just have the superpowers I remember and the vivid colors, but no actual awareness that I'm dreaming usually. Gonna use SP now to try and go for full evocation of spirits, it came to me that this state has to help enormously with that purpose.

@@dorgisherpa5363 What I would recommend doing is waking up after about 4/12 - 6 hours of sleep, staying awake for 15 minutes, and going back to bed on your back. Darken your room or wear a sleeping mask. Every breath you take, imagine your body getting heavier and heavier. Let your breathing normalize after this. Allow yourself to zone out and completely let go of the idea of sleep paralysis. Just enjoy relaxing. As soon as you are dipping in and out of sleep, try to keep a little bit of awareness and start focusing on visualizing the lucid dream you want to have. Ignore the "Rollover" signal and vividly create your dream in your head. If you can keep awareness as you fall into your REM stage, you should enter a dream consciously :)

Enjoyed your video, it's hard for me to use this approach because i get super close then almost ever time I have to use the restroom. I go before I lay down which is annoying. It has worked for me a couple times though. The best way for me is going to sleep and setting an alarm for about 90 minutes. That's usually when I hit the first REM period. So when I wake up I turn off my alarm without moving a lot. Then I do your technique and it works almost every time because I'm already in a hypnogogic type state. Luckily for me I have always had conscious sleep paralysis. Lol that's how I learned about Astral Projection. Anyway just thought I'd share.

Wow that's amazing! A lot of people will set the alarm for 4 1/2 or 6 hours of sleep which are the longest REM periods, then they'll go to the bathroom and lay back down. I have found success with this, and also what you listed above. It's really cool to know you've found your method! There are lots of variations of inducing sleep paralysis so I'm glad you've found something that has worked. Have you had any astral projection experiences so far? :)

Then you probably aren't in REM, or your body just isn't tired enough to fall asleep. It will take some time to get used to, but you'll find the perfect moment when you're awake but kind of tired, you could fall asleep easily, but you could also keep your mind occupied while you relax for a while with your eyes closed. If you ever wake up DIRECTLY from a dream, that would be the perfect time to try this :)

Look, cast aside your fears. Even when you are completely out of your budy (astral projecting) The 'demons' or evil beings can't do anything to you as long as you are positive. In fact, you won't even encounter them as long as you stay positive and emit positive energy. Showing negative energy actually attarcts them to you. So stay positive and you WILL be fine. This is worth pushing through your fears.

I would recommend targeting your REM stage. Play around with it the first couple nights. Wake up after about 4 1/2 - 6 hours of sleep; and then try waking up two hours before you would normally wake up. When you wake up directly from a dream, that means you are in REM. Once you wake up in REM, stay up for about 10 ish minutes just relaxing and then lay down. Completely relax and try to disassociate from your senses as much as possible. Once you start going into that half awake/half asleep trance state, it should HIGHLY speed up the process.

Luckily, there is no such thing as a sleep paralysis demon! It is your perception of the sensations that are happening, and your thoughts that are responsive to your environment. I have chronic sleep paralysis which I’ve had since I was about 12 and I have to take antipsychotics for it because I will get it up to like 40 times a night without my meds. Nothing cures it besides from antipsychotics and when I wasn’t on meds it was the worst feeling ever, I wasn’t sleeping or eating, I gave myself insomnia from the sheer terror of SP, and I was consistently reliving trauma in my life from having SP episodes.

Sleep paralysis is an easy gateway for lucid dreaming and out-of-body experiences. If you have sleep paralysis or can induce it, you'll be able to induce a lucid dream or have an astral projection experience at will! We can use these states of consciousness to explore the inner realms of our subconscious mind, and use it for growth, transformation, self discovery, and just pure adventure. You can also reprogram your brain and work through trauma/shadow work in these states. Sleep paralysis occurs when you're in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. This is when your brain is dreaming. If you are awake in sleep paralysis, this means your mind is conscious but your body is asleep, causing you to hallucinate in your waking environment. We can actually control our sleep paralysis experiences with thought, emotion, and intention. This is why if we feel fear in sleep paralysis, we seem to experience things that create more fear. It's just like the lucid dream state. I know it can be scary, and I'm sorry it has interrupted your sleep cycle like it has. But with practice it CAN be cultivated and used for other practices. Much love

How long does it take to enter sleep paralysis? Or is it just different for everyone?
@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
It is definitely different for everyone because it depends if you are in REM sleep at the time. If you do wake up in REM and ignore the "Rollover" signal, it should happen within at least 30 minutes. Sometimes it can happen within minutes. As long as you are in a tired, groggy state but able to keep a sliver of awareness, you definitely have amazing chances at inducing sleep paralysis :)

Every time I try to get into that state, I just fall asleep normally, usually after at least two hours of laying. The hardest part for me is to get my breathing right. I know I'm supposed to just not think about my breathing and let it happen naturally, but the only times that I don't think about my breathing are when my thoughts go drifting away to something else... which will just cause me to fall asleep normally. Whenever I am thinking about my breathing, it's impossible to keep it at natural/relaxed phase. Everyone always say.. "Concentrate on your breathing and you'll be fine bro", but it's just not working for me. Only if I try extremely hard, I can "imitate" the relaxed breathing for few seconds. Once I do that, I feel like I was shifting off my bed and I get this little tingling wave coming up on my body starting from my legs. But I just can't hold onto that relaxed breathing for more than few breaths only. Please help me :( About a year back I couldn't even stay still and my body used to keep moving on it's own uncontrollably, doing these little twitchy movements and so. At least that's luckily not happening to me anymore.
@TheLucidMystic
5 жыл бұрын
So the first thing I would recommend is playing around with the time you wake up. We need to catch our body off guard so it doesn't naturally prepare for wakefulness. I would try setting your alarm for 4 1/2 - 6 hours after you go to sleep. If you just came out of a dream, you know you are in REM sleep. Pay attention to what times you are dreaming at, because that will give you a good indication of when your body is in sleep paralysis naturally so you can try. Another thing I would recommend is naps. Our mind is pretty awake before we take a nap. So as our body rests and goes to sleep, we can easily keep our mind awake. Or sleep for a short period of time during this nap and once you wake up just hold still and it'll come on. ESPECIALLY during naps. But we can't think too hard about getting into sleep paralysis. Enjoy the relaxation; for some reason, it'll make sleep paralysis a lot more likely. Another thing I would recommend for the breathing portion of your message is to breath shallow. Taking in hardly any air, but enough to still be able to relax. Have you ever played dead as a kid with your friends and tried to stop your breathing being noticeable? It's kind of like that, you want to breath super light, to the point it almost doesn't raise your stomach/diaphram. This may take a little practice to get the feel for the breathing I am explaining, but try it during meditation or before you go to bed. Do exactly what you would do if you were sleeping, and try to make it as realistic at possible. Practicing this breathing outside of the actual technique will help your body familiarize with it and get used to it. It does sound like the breathing method you tried WAS working, we just need to try to point our focus away from our physical body and senses, just like you would do for an out of body induction. Don't think about your breathing if possible, don't think about your sensations or your body. Focus on a MANTRA to keep your mind occupied. Think of an imaginary scenario of the perfect lucid dream. What would it look like? This is just being used as something to occupy your mind away from your physical body and senses. I'm not sure if you meditate, but I would practice relaxing the body and breathing in meditation; it'll help it feel more natural when you do the technique. Also practice not giving into urges to itch or move during meditation; as this will aid you in the sleep paralysis induction as well. I hope this helps :)

@@TheLucidMystic Setting the alarm for earlier than normal is an interesting idea. Usually 6 hours after I've gone to sleep is when I normally wake up tho. Do you think that not getting enough sleep quite often can have negative impact on trying to reach sleep paralysis? Are we talking about naps during the day? ...I could try that. I haven't played dead as much. But I could imagine that I'm playing hide n seek and my friend is looking for me... and that I would have to keep my breathing as quiet and little as possible so they wouldn't hear me. Would that work the same? I don't understand what I would have to think about when I'm laying there. It's very hard for me not to think about anything at all - perhaps I could only do it for few seconds at max. Also I do not know what MANTRA is, do I know Mantra for this? If I try making up a perfect lucid dream, I would most likely just get carried away with it. And I'm not that creative so I would probably just imagine myself floating and flying around at my house lol. I do not meditate, no. I also do not know how to meditate. Do you have a tutorial video on this? I would love to watch it! Me too, I hope it helps. Thanks for replying to me :)

@@ericbridge8419 Yeah, definitely. It is common for people to experience sleep paralysis with an unstable sleep cycle, but to be able to get it consistently and induce it at will, it is best to try to go to bed the same times every night and wake up around the same time every morning. This will also help you determine when your REM stages are, so you can wake yourself during those times. If you sleep for about 6 hours, I would try waking up after 4-4 1/2 hours a couple times; This is what really helped me! Yes, Naps during the day really help since your mind is aware from being awake, but your body easily slips into sleep due to the relaxation. So naps are an AMAZING opportunity! I'm the same way, sometimes my mind wanders. But I will concentrate on my breath for a moment and say "In....Out...." in my head as I breathe and that keeps my mind occupied. A mantra is a sentence that you use over and over during meditation. So for example, if you haven't been remembering your dreams, as you fall asleep, you might say, "Tonight I will remember my dreams; I have excellent dream recall". Since you are using this to reach sleep paralysis, you might say "Mind Awake, Body asleep" or "I am always aware when I am dreaming." Whichever mantra we choose, it seeps into our subconscious as we drift off and plants the suggestion within the brain. That's why they use this method in hypnosis. Very powerful! And trust me; you are VERY creative; you just don't know it yet! Once you become lucid and have access to 95% more of your mind, you will see how creative you actually are. Everything we experience in our dreams and lucid dreams is created by our own mind, which is absolutely mind blowing. It also gives us access to creativity we don't have access to in the waking state; but we can actually bring back that creativity with us to the waking state with a little practice! I don't have a video on that quite yet but that will be my next video!

@@TheLucidMystic I tried to get into sleep paralysis yesterday night as I was going to sleep. I was just trying not to think about anything, but it did not work out and I ended up getting carried away with a dream in the end. But as I had been in the dream for about 10 seconds, my whole body suddenly went extremely heavy and very very relaxed in just one single moment. The feeling lasted for few seconds only, probably because it woke my mind up and I wasn't able to breathe calmly anymore. But it was interesting, I think I was quite close to achieving sleep paralysis :) I've also heard that you should not TRY not to think about anything, but you should rather just LET yourself not to think about anything ...what do You think of this? I will definitely try out taking a nap during the day, I should have some more time in few days. Taking a nap really sounds INCREDIBLY AMAZING, as you describe it. Have you heard that when people get repeated the same thing over and over again, they will at some point just start believing in it, no matter what it is? Is Mantra like "hypnotizing yourself" in a way? If I think about it now, I have actually done that. For few years I used to repeat to myself everyday at least once that I am a genius and that I am a very good person. And guess what... now I believe all that about myself. Do you mean that in a lucid dream you think 95% faster? It honestly feels to me that it's more like 500+% faster. I have sometimes woken up in the morning and I've still been half sleeping... and then I've said to myself that I want to create a poem. So I start speaking in my dream, and it doesn't matter what I say... everything just magically rhymes so perfectly, sounding extremely good and making so much sense. Then I instantly get up and try to write it down, but of course all I can write is either nothing or only one single line of my masterpiece. I just forget everything so fast.. I will be looking forward to seeing that Meditation video of yours. I'm excited. Let's see if I can make it this night. You're the best! Thank you for everything

REM happens 5-6 times a night; roughly every 90 minutes of sleep. Every time you wake up from a dream, you know you are in REM. I would recommend playing around with the times you wake up to see if you can catch yourself in dreaming sleep. But in the early hours of the morning, you will be in your longest REM cycle. Usually between 4 1/2 - 6 hours into sleep :)

How long must I wait to get past the 'roll over stage'

It depends, but if you are correctly tricking your body to think you are asleep, it should pass within 5-10ish minutes; but it varies from person to person!

Should I open my eyes at all or should I keep them closed the whole night? I know it might seem like a dumb question but I’m kinda confused.

I would keep them closed because we have to trick our mind into thinking we are asleep. If you use this for astral projection, once you are close to having one, you will start to see through your closed eyes so you don't need to worry about opening them :) No worries! All questions are good questions. I hope this helps.

The Lucid Mystic thanks, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Ive tried every night for about a week now. I’ve been waking up 6 hours after I go to sleep so I’m in a rem period and following what you said but it never works.

@@DanielRamos-lj3xk Do you ever wake up directly from a dream? How often do you remember your dreams? There could be a few different factors here so let's figure it out so I can help you in the most efficient way :) Looking forward to your response!
