I saw many videos on KZitem regarding the Siberian hitch, but this one is the best, and not just because of the bigger rope diameter:) Only in this video, I understood which knot is the base (figure 8) for the Siberian Hitch, and after you know it, you can easily control yourself tying it. Also, a very important aspect is to move the knot slightly right on the tree, it makes the final result more accurate and assembled because otherwise, the loop with the main rope will be slightly outlying from the tail.

Thanks so much. I made the video for the very reason you like mine, because you couldn't tell what these other guys were doing. Especially with something as thin as paracord. Cheers

I just watched five videos on the SH and yours was the best . The others did not show a close-up of the finished knot. They did not show how to use your right hand for the last bite. And they did not show how to flip the knot over for the final dressing.

Thanks. I almost didn't make the video because there are so many out there but they all use paracord and it's hard to see what they're doing. I like to visualize the knot step-by-step.

Another super awesome video man. I'm just pecking through your videos learning useful knots and stuff after seeing your other video. One thing i would add is when this knot is useful vs say the knot you used in your pulley video where you said the other knot was more "permanent" so i'm assuming its more secure than this Siberian hitch?
@perryfire3006

Different knots have different purposes. Most of the knots I showcase are life-safety knots (look for that playlist, the firefighter ones) but the Siberian is strictly utilitarian, not for trusting your life. Happy pecking around!

Thank you for this video and the other instructional videos you have made. Can you please provide an example of how I could use this particular hitch? What would be a good application of this hitch? Thank you!
@perryfire3006

Of course. I personally wouldn't treat it as a life safety knot but strictly a utilitarian one. You could use it to set up a ridge line for a tent, a clothesline, the end of a guy line, ( I'm sure there are others ) etc, but I use it most often as part of a releasable truckers hitch for tying things down in the back of my truck which prompted me to make the Siberian Hitch video in the first place. It's very satisfying to to give your tie-down rope a couple of tugs and have a knot free rope to use again, plus it will impress your neighbors. 😊

I have seen climbers lower them selves down on a rope to pull on the other end and pull the rope down after them. Is this the knot they use?

Not that I am aware, but you got me thinking. I know that a lot of canyon explorers have several methods for retrieving their rope including the Macrame Knot, the CEM, and fiddlesticks. Disclaimer: Make sure that you absolutely know what you are doing before you ever attempt a retrievable anchor. I would have to consult with experts before I would ever recommend using the Siberian Hitch in that capacity. Thanks for the thought exercise.

This knot is a figure of 8 knot with a slip on both ends ,I use a overhand knot with both ends slipped which is a better knot.

Would a taunt line hitch work as well for this. It seems like it does but I don't know if it's as secure as this one. I tie those instinctively.

The advantage of the Siberian is that it is easily releasable, but there are many termination knots that hold really well, including the taut line. Thanks for watching.

Not sure what you're asking. I wouldn't hang off of any quick release knot regardless if it was strong enough if that is where your question was heading. Feel free to ask again.

What use does this know have? It doesn't seem to be usable for tarps and hammocks given that it doesn't easily allow you to adjust the tightness of the working end.
