Great video with some interesting points. I have now extensively tested both the GoPro Max and Insta360 One R for in water / surf use. The biggest problems with the Insta360 One R: - Camera constantly overheats after 25ish minutes and shuts down - Occasional fogging on the inside of the lens if camera is running hot and external temperature is below 20C. - Camera is not water proof without dive housing, however once the camera heats up the dive housing fogs up as well, I know of several people that had damaged cameras after using them in the surf without dive housing. The problems is with the o-rings not sealing properly if water is forced past. - On first look the Insta360 One R software looks good and some neat features but once you try and do any serious reframing it's useless, endless transcoding, proxy generation... etc etc. In comparison the GoPro Max software allows you to trim the sections you want as a new clips. You can then safe just those clips and delete the original files saving a ton of space in the process. The reframing again is easier to control in the GoPro app. Finally it allows you export in ProRes which eliminates the need for proxies in FinalCut. The image quality of the Insta360 One R is slightly better than the GoPro Max and the smaller forma factor is great as well. But there are so many problems with this camera it feels more like a beta product. I have returned mine. BTW, I am in no way affiliated with either GoPro or Insta360.

My issue now is simple: I have a video from my 360 GPro. I chose my focus points, sliced to my song, etc. Now the video on my hard drive (Export) is nice. It's flat, clear. However, on YT it shows up as 360 video still - so it's GRAINY, but you can look around. I would love to either eliminate the grain OR make it FLAT. I am misisng something simple, I know...

@@MrFullyCharged its in your export settings. you need to turn off the 360 vr option. Try a couple different export pressets and that will solve it. If not you need to change your sequence settings to a non VR sequence

@@Levi_Allen Thanks. I'm getting stuck because when creating the project I probably selected "360" and now the equirectangular/etc. are defaulted and will not allow changes. I will keep digging. I thought I could try opening a new project, copying all files (and telling new project to be flat/1080/etc) however this still doesn't seem to be as easy as hoped. Cheers!

Hi Levi - great video! A total newbie to the world of 360 video here, but somewhat experienced with FCP. Trying to find a great workflow model and yours looks great and has lots of positive feedback - but before I jump in and make it my own, am wondering if (given the passage of time - ie this is 3 years old) the Insta360 Studio app and possible existence of updated FCP (+plug-in?) mean that there’s now an advantage to first dealing with footage in Insta360 Studio? Any advice would be most appreciated!

my export options with Insta360 Studio (mac) 3.5.7 does not include Original Resolution. If I choose 5760 for the resolution the program chooses 3240 which is not a 2:1 ration and seems to be messing things up when I try to export to youtube. Any thoughts?
