Green forest yam (Latin: Gallus varius) is the name of a type of bird belonging to the group of poultry of the tribe Phasianidae, namely the family of chickens, quails, peacocks, and sempidans. Partridges are believed to be the ancestors of some domesticated chickens in the archipelago. This chicken is called by various names in various places, such as canghegar or cangehgar (Sd.), alas chicken (Jw.), ajem allas or tarattah (Md.).
