starting this game right after finishing kh1 makes you feel so crippled.. can't do two attacks in a row without getting knocked back with a card break. Sure it should get easier once you have a greater amount of strong cards, but the beginning is really demotivating

John Kinney so i recently beat the first kh game and i want to continue the story right away.. i have the 1.5 + 2.5remix on ps4 and i really love the story so far.. then i bump to this video and oh my god i was shocked of how they changed the battle system.. im not ready for it.. im confused.. and my god youre really not helping.. yes.. you.. youre everywhere in this comment section man.. i get that you want to defend this game and i do too because i really like kh series now.. and base on my research.. and i mean full on research this game sucked ass.. i was demotivated to play it but i have to play it because i want to know what the story is.. this battle system is not for everyone.. i played kh1 on proud mode on my first play through its fucking hard and sometimes enrages me but IT IS STILL FUN.. but this game.. my god.. this game feels like a chore.. and im the type of guy that if i dont enjoy the game i wont play it.. idc if anyone will tell me "you just suck at this game" and yeah.. a lot of games i sucked.. but games for me are my escape.. some games are hard but i enjoy it like dark souls.. i never really like the turn base system because its boring.. but this combat system is on a whole level.. its one of a kind.. and its simply plain sucks.. im giving props to you if you finish the game.. i envy you because i really like to play the game for the story.. but the CS is killing me and demotivates me.. what im trying to say is people really like KH games for the story and it sucks that some people cant really play this because.. well.. lets be honest. its confusing.. stop being an ass go every comment saying nuisance things and shoving peoples throats the combat system rocks when its not.. and saying that they just suck at it.. again.. its demotivating..

Something that I noticed recently playing both Stories in Proud Mode is the "balance" between both: • Sora has more Sleights, but Riku's are more OP • Riku has a quicker reload • Sora can use all card types • Riku has a transformation (Dark Form) • Sora's Deck is customizable • Riku's Attack Points can grow up
@redshepherd32

so essentially riku benefits more in raw power from level grinding at the cost of a deck customization, but being able to expand mostly cp in level ups make sora more open ended at the cost of reload time and power

My feelings towards Lethal Frame are mixed. While I do think it's overpowered since you're able to completely immobilize bosses, at the same time, the gameplay mechanics are very unbalanced with very easy ways to win. Boss using a powerful attack? Just use a 0 card. Don't feel like you're dealing enough damage? Just use Ars Arcanum+Jafar-Genie card. Chain of Memories is still my favorite in the series so far.

The best way to avoid running out of cards is to not rely on sleights, or put too many Premium Cards in your deck. When you stock cards for a sleight, you lose the first card you stocked. And in the case of Premium Cards (the ones with the yellow numbers on them), you don't get them back after you use them, regardless of what you used it for. So unless you put item cards in your deck that "quickly restore ALL attack cards", it's best to avoid PC's and/or too many sleights.

Mugsi I beat Sora and Riku on proud mode without knowing this as well. It doesn't matter for Riku since he only has one kind of attack card anyway, and with Sora my strategy involved using a massive amounts of sleights, even back in the GBA one. I pretty much never do 3 hit combos, so while this is interesting and awesome, this didn't really affect much. The beginning portion of the game will be a bit easier now though.

@dmas7749

Then explain why this video exists. Why do cards need so many fucking stats that you have to look it up because the game doesn't even fucking tell you some do more thrust or strike damage? Especially since they never did that bull in KH1 or KH2. Why do bosses have so many cheap moves that the only way to beat them is to be even cheaper? This is what I call "fake depth". It exists for no reason other than to fool the player into thinking its more deep than it really is, and what it really is, is arbitrary complication. Why the fuck do Keyblades need a recovery stat? I should get a chance to recover if the boss decides to break a Metal Chocobo Keyblade. If you're gonna call me a n00b for that then you've already lost. I won't lie, KH1 had its bullshit but at least I could never get literally stun-locked to death or one-shotted, nor did it have cryptic bullshit mechanics. Yeah it was simple, hit enemy, they take damage, enemy hit you, you take damage. And the most important thing is, you could AVOID that damage. Whether you get hit in CoM is all dependant on if the RNG decides that your card is getting broken. And if your card gets broken you WILL get hit.
@JohnGaming55
6 жыл бұрын
+D MAS +D MAS the journal clearly tells you what key blades have what strike, thrust, and finish stats. Also, you must not be playing the game right. The boss attacks aren't cheap, they take time to figure out, just like any boss fight. This game isn't a mash fest. It's a strategy game more-so.
@dmas7749
6 жыл бұрын
Well it's funny you say that because strategy is actually my strong suit, so don't give me that "not playing the game right" bull. I'll give you the journal bit, though, but it's not really saying much because 90% of gamers aren't gonna fuck with the journal. So that's one of their core mechanics that most players will NEVER know about, unless they happen to stumble upon this video like I did. And even then it's still arbitrarily complicated. You might find that fun, but in this particular case I really don't. Hell I play KH1 and KH2 the same way. If something doesn't work out, I'll check everything, my equipment, my Abilities and see what works best. If I need more MP for a fight I'll bring Ethers, if not I'll bring Potions. Even within the fight I'm constantly planning my next move around what I think the boss or enemy is going to do next. You seem to be under the impression that I like to just play games with only the X button (O in JP versions). Well, my reflexes aren't that good, so no, I actually have to think for what I need to do.

See even with this game being my favorite gameplay out of the series, the game itself doesn't really tell you about certain things. Like how group fights and boss fights work better separate decks not using the same deck as an all arounder. Or that this feature of the mechanics right here isn't even explained in the tutorial it's just put in the journal and not even in your deck editing menu. Like information in this game is not being used/convened properly. Which sucks because people first impressions on it are not so good and turn them off to this style and it's a shame :(

Every other game in the series pretty much kept the old battle system, with minor tweaks and new mechanics (panel system in Days, command decks in BBS and Coded, some timed-combat in Chi I think). Get a good game designer who knows what they're doing, and you can really make KH's signature gameplay a blast to play on any difficulty (aka KH2). Simple mechanics that are easy for anyone to grasp, but have depth and complexity for the player who's looking for a challenge. CoM is okay. It's admirable that they tried something new and attempted to make it fun on the PS2. But I know plenty of fans who got frustrated with this game for the sudden change from free-combat to being stuck in this poorly-explained card system that is a lot more complicated than anything else in this series. What I'm saying is: Card games are not bad; but in general the fans of Kingdom Hearts' gameplay aren't fans because they like complex card games. They play Kingdom Hearts for the gameplay introduced in Kingdom Hearts, later greatly improved upon in KH2.

Okay, although I appreciate the fact this game puts in so much thought to its system, I can't help but feel it was very poorly explained to the players. I sat through the tutorial in game dozens of times, including watching it on KZitem, and I never got this. I also know tons of players who never knew about this, or just cheesed through the game some other way. A lot of the tips and tricks I see people making, they never hint alude to this whole "Strike-thrust-finisher" system. I'm no Einstein, but I usually catch on to game mechanics pretty quick, or at least study them until I've got a good understanding and got it memorized (no that wasn't intentional). And, at least in this series, I've never had to check the Journal in order to understand the game (unless it was story-related). Thank you for clearly explaining something the game didn't seem really bother to (at least, from my observations). I still hate this card gameplay in a series where combat is free, and fun to control and master, but at least they tried something new and tried to flesh it out.

Hey, I've been doing this trick in the PS2 version long ago, and i found out that Sora combo CAN be Thrust > Strike > Finisher. When Sora attack from afar (Like 02:32), Sora will Thrust, Strike, then Finisher. And when you attack an enemy in the air from the land (NOT like 05:12, its too short) Sora will also Thrust, Strike, Then Finisher. Well, it's been a long time since i played Re:CoM, so i could be wrong. :/
@RadiantDarkBlaze

Yes, because exactly as it says- it's Fire-elemental. This means that if you want a good deck centered around combos, the single best combo sets to have would likely be: Enemy card: Red Nocturne Bond of Flame > Bond of Flame > One-Winged Angel *repeat a few times* Oblivion > Oblivion > Metal Chocobo (to deal with fire-resistant foes) Also, if I remember correctly from the video, Bond of Flame has a * strike. Aerial combos don't have thrusts, so jump before those combos. Make sense?

+John Kinney I considered it my favorite on the GBA ever since KH 2 came out back in 2005 and I began to miss the card system. I am not sure if I prefer the PS2 / PS3 version more, because I love the GBA sprites so much.

Nah, I'm not in denial. I'm just in the small minority. The bias towards this game is super unfair, just saying. The card system is well crafted and fun to utilize, and the story is one of the best stories if not the best.

MisAnthro Pony It doesn't suck. The problem is that most people are too stupid to understand the battle system or too lazy to learn it. What's so hard about collecting a bunch of premium cards for sleighs, 9 to 7 cards for combos and 0 cards to break stacks? It's a basic, simple strategy and it's the same as grinding levels.

At least it's better than mashing triangle button for everything. Or Square. I find CoM's battle system harmless at its worst, especially after hearing how unbalanced Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance really are. It still doesn't stand up to the magnificent battle system of KH 2 but I've seen much worse.

All these letter graded stats should be in the journal. Great video. This game had a lot of potential but it was too linear and restrictive. The card battle system was a blast though.

Wow, I never even noticed this. I love the Kingdom Hearts series, but I hate card based battle systems. So, Re:CoM was a nightmare for me. I haven't even done anything with 1.5 Re:CoM, but I guess I'll give it another try. Thanks for making this video.

wow, didn't even know they added this many keyblades to the remake. Just started playing the remake myself and I thought I was nearing the end of new keyblade cards. Also making a deck that spams sonic blade and lethal frame is ridiculous. The question I have is if the placement of the cards in the sleight affects the power of the move performed?

@Everglow where did you actually find these grades for the cards? They aren't listed in game since the cards only have a generic strength rating. I can't seem to find this info on the wikis either...

Hi again, only have one question on this one: Is the damage inflicted by sleights such as Blitz, Sonic Blade and Ars Arcanum influenced by the cards chosen, or is it irrelevant, so long as the criteria is met?
@everglowKH

Sleights have a default power, therefore it doesn't matter which cards you stock.

When I played the GBA game I used nothing but Kingdom keys because that's what I had the highest value cards of.Can you even imagine how long it took to defeat the final boss like that?

I notice a slight error in the video description: Higher stats for CP required actually equates to it needing fewer CP, as the Stat ranks are D being the lowest and Star being the highest. So of course, it would not make sense if Ultima Weapon actually cost less to put in the deck than Kingdom Key

Two questions here. 1. Does this videos guide count towards using the cards on the GBA version of CoM? 2. Just curious, on a number of cards you showed, why'd you use Jafars card? It's been a while since I played and I forgot what his card does. >
@everglowKH

1. Yes it does. 2. Jafar's enemy card doesn't allow enemies to break your cards for 20 attacks. I had to use it so I could perform those combos without being interrupted, so I could show their effect in the video :)

***** Cool, thanks for that. And if I can just say, you're like the BatmanArkhamVideos for Kingdom Hearts (the channel that plays the Batman Arkham series). You actually take time to explain things about the KH game you're playing and give it in best possible detail. And you're not afraid to show your mess ups like getting ambushed by enemies (which happens to alot of KH players, me included), and I see you like to challenge yourself in your vids, like not changing weapons at all. So keep doing what you do.

Everglow what is the typically best setup for a deck? Involving a mix of single card magic and attacks, as well as occasional sleights with cure cards scattered throughout to allow for quick access to healing while attacking. since I'm trying to set up my deck so it's not (sleights/combos, magic by type, cures) in that order from start to finish.

If you use sleights, the first card in the sleight is rendered unreloadable, it can be reloaded using a hi potion hi ether and elixir

This is useful but I played this on proud mode and used random cards and didn't really have a problem.Anyways this is just how I feel.If people really like using sleights make a deck that reach the requirements for the sleight in order you want but make sure the 3 cards are right next to each other so you can spam them one after another in a fight.Make sure you have some high potions or any other high item cards.

so if you're doing an aerial combo, does the second hit count as a strike or thrust? the video says thrust, but it looks like a strike. and ik that a thrust can be first in a combo if you're far away from the enemy so... idk?

I want to "thank you" for making this video. I'm kind of new to video games but I can fight good, I can't for the life of me figure out the cards though. I do catch what you're showing me but what I can't do is put the cards down the bottom one at a time. They only go up top and I have to put three, then, of course, I run out right at the end of a boss battle. What buttons do I use to do one card at a time and make them go on the bottom?
