Epoxy resin is not bad at all but other types of resin can be horrible. I made the mistake once of buying a resin that is meant to do fiberglass patches on stuff like boats and the smell was so unbelievably bad. And I made the mistake of mixing it inside. It took days to get the smell out of the house. The resin you see me use in this video does have an odor but it's not bad and fades quickly. The epoxy resin you get at Hobby Lobby or Michael's is about the same, low odor that fades quickly. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!

When you use the decoupage, is it a gloss or satin finish or does it make a difference? Also, what if you wiped on some mold release on the sides of the coaster mold, would that prevent the little lip that occurs after curing...the shrinkage?
@JeanninesCraftroom
3 жыл бұрын
It really doesn't matter. The resin is glossy, so your finished project will be as well. I don't think mold release will get rid of the lip. What some people do is use the bottom of the mold as the top of the coaster and sand the lip away before putting the cork or some other material over it. That way you would ever know it was there and you don't have to worry about the way it looks.

I was a bit upset when I bought my Printer. It advertised the Printer as "Laser Quality", and mentioned nothing about it being an Inkjet Printer. So I was a bit annoyed when I learned it was not a Laser Printer. So now I've been trying to figure out how to seal the Photos for Resin to protect it. I know you explained the process, but do you have a Tutorial that shows how to seal an Inkjet Image? Would using different types of Printer Paper change anything? Photo Paper? Waterproof Paper? You wouldn't need the modge podge to seal the photo if you used a clear acryllic spray to seal it. The only problem you might encounter would be the photo floating in the resin or moving around from where you placed it. You might need a bit of glue to keep it in place while the resin hardens.

@JeanninesCraftroom
4 жыл бұрын
You can not wash it down the sink and it will not clean off of your working surface once it has dried. I suggest you protect your work surface with newspaper or freezer paper or a silicone mat. The resin will peel off of the silicone once it has cured. You can reuse your measuring cups over and over but will have to dispose of your mixing cup once you've used it, unless it is silicone. You can wipe out your measuring cups with a paper towel to clean them. I highly recommend silicone stirrers, measuring cups and mixing cups as they can be used again and again and cleaned easily once the resin has cured.

@JeanninesCraftroom

Yes, that would be an option. I don't do it that way for a couple of reasons. First, I like to see the image clearly as I'm working to ensure their are no air bubbles obscuring it. If it were face down, i would not be able to see if air bubbles were trapped in front of the image. Second, I don't mind the little lip the resin gives the top of the coaster. In my opinion it just makes it more effective. Hope this answers your questions. 😊

What kind of stir stick is that? Walmart, you say?
@JeanninesCraftroom

It's made from silicone and the resin will come off from it when the resin dries, so it can be used over and over again. Thanks for watching!

Carmen Mueller It's a die cutting machine. There are lots of different kinds and brands but they all work basically the same.

Jeannine's Craft Room thanks for replying my idee is to print a paragraph (laser print) then make the white resin like you said then seal the papper (would clear dry craft glue work) then put a see through but lightly colored resin ontop. One last question what can i use if i dont have silicone molds and to use so that it doesn't stick. Thanks for your time.
@JeanninesCraftroom

Brandon Labuschagne Yes, I would think any clear glue would seal the paper. I'm not sure what you could use instead of a silicone mold. That is all I've ever used.

can I seal the paper with laminate?
@JeanninesCraftroom
6 жыл бұрын
VelvetGeisha I'm not sure what the resin would do to the laminate. The resin creates a heated chemical reaction that can alter different materials, which is why paper has to be protected. Resin discolors paper in the chemical reaction. The best answer I can give you is, try it. See what happens. If you do, come back and comment here and let us know how it turns out. Thanks!

Yes, this brand of resin yellows but there are other brands that don't. This one is more economical and that's why I use it.

hello ... I need your help ... have you tried encapsulating a sticker with flexible resin and then trying to stick it on a t-shirt? Can you help me ... to achieve it? ... I would like to make a sticker and put transparent epoxy resin on it ... and encapsulate a sticker of a small baseball ... and then I thought, how could I stick it on a shirt without falls off the first wash? Have you done something like that? Thanks...
@JeanninesCraftroom

I don't know if resin would be your best option for that. I would laminate it and then use a fusible webbing to adhere it to the shirt.

@@JeanninesCraftroom What is a fusible tape like? Is it like a textile adhesive vinyl? ... I have seen a technique called duming it is as if it were a ... kind ... mmm ... flexible drip resin, which falls on a sticker cut with a cutting plotter and makes it looks like ... a plastic capsule ... I loved it I tried to make one but ... the resin capsule came off the textile vinyl ...

@@theredmaster_superbee I'm not familiar with the technique you are referring to. The fusible tape is a fabric binding medium.

Hi... I've already saw that symbol... I'm very interested on it. The first time I saw it was on a Facebook profile of a masonic man. Does that symbol belongs to freemasonry? I'd really like to know its meaning... Maybe it has some bonds with phi and the golden proportion.... Hope you can answer. Thank you so much!!!

Is the resin old? It had an amber color.
@JeanninesCraftroom
5 жыл бұрын
No, it's not old. It's because of the type of resin I used. It's intended use is mainly for giving a hard clear coat to wood surfaces. It's much cheaper than the craft resin which is why I use it.
