In this video, we demonstrate how to empty a JP drain. A Jackson-Pratt (JP) drain is a closed-suction medical device that we will send home with some of our patients after surgery.
The JP drain collects fluids from surgical sites. It consists of an internal drain connected to a grenade-shaped bulb via plastic tubing. The JP drain is an important component of the healing process as it prevents fluid from building up and causing wound disruption or infection.
