Monolids rock! I don't understand why people are so down about them in the first place? Break free from self-internalized racism, that's what it is, isn't it?

Totally agree! But it's hard to feel that way sometimes because of the media's influence on beauty, especially in countries like Korea where double lid surgeries are so common.

It's true that she's pretty, but she has rather large eyes for a monolid. Not all monolids look like that, hence why some would want surgery to fix that. Please don't pretend to know the struggle of all monolids.

I have a monolid with no crease and have tried a smoky eye look with several epic failures. Your technique of using a cream eyeshadow to as a first step to ''mark' your lid was brilliant. I used a cream eyeliner in dark/glittery brown and just after that step alone, my eyes looked open and awake! LOVE the results of my first try. I will keep practicing and appreciate your video! Thanks!

From the Naked Palette, use any of the medium metallic colors (sin, sidecar, halfbaked, toasted) for the lid and any of the darker colors (creep, gunmetal, hustle, darkhorse) for contour. :)

They are both really nice for different reasons. Eyeko is more longer lasting/waterproof while Too Faced has a skinnier tip & 3 prongs so you can apply to the lower lash line and have a more precise line. I love them both. :)
@frmheadtotoe

My right eye likes to get a small hooded crease all the time! I understand it's super frustrating because it rubs the makeup off so often so I feel your pain. You'll want to bring the shadow up slightly higher at the top of the lid to compensate for extra skin that gets hidden in the crease. Apply a little, check with your eyes looking forward and open, then apply a little more until you see enough color but it doesn't look "punched".
@frmheadtotoe
12 жыл бұрын
If you might try one more, I've heard NARS eyeshadow primer is great. Try wiping your lid with a q-tip before starting to remove any lid oils, then apply primer and let it dry. Then do your shadow and use gel liner or a very waterproof liquid liner. If it's any consolation, product always smudges at my outer eye corners/lower lash line too because I get teary and oily there. Sometimes it just happens!
@frmheadtotoe

If you look at your lid with eyes open you want it so that some color shows on your lid above your lash line, but you have enough natural space under your brow for highlight. Start out with less and add more if you feel it's not enough until you figure out what looks best!
@frmheadtotoe
12 жыл бұрын
Generally, sticking with your natural eyebrow thickness looks best (unless they are REALLY distracting). I recommend using a small, dense pencil brush (the #24 brush I used is awesome) to apply shadow & blend. Stick close to your lid fold while eyes are open, bringing it up just enough so you see color but not too close to your brow. Add little by little until it looks right! It just takes practice to see where looks good. :)

To adapt this look for creased eyes, just contour the dark shadow at the outer corners into your crease, and blend the dark color out a bit more on the top edge. Monolids benefit from the extra definition but creased eyes will look more natural without it. ;)

Hi Jen, thanks for another awesome monolid tutorial!! Like many monolidded girls, I used to find it so frustrating to wear make up. Even worse is that I used to wish I had double lids! What I love most about your tutorials is that they show that monolids can be just as beautiful as double lids. I've come to love my monolids and I wouldn't ever get them sliced for any reason. ;)

I know this is for "monolids" but every time I look for tutorials on monolid makeup I always come up with people who have a slight crease. I have those REALLY Asian monolids where the eyelid folds over my lashline. I have also NEVER EVER put any makeup on my face (not including Halloween makeup) besides liquid and pencil eyeliner. So, I was wondering about a few things (anyone is free to answer - I can use all the help I can get!): 1. How would I make my eyelashes appear longer since they are half covered by my eyelids? 2. Any tips for beginner contour for a roundish Asian face? I have very prominent cheeks and puffy eyelids :( 3. Any way I can make my eyes look more deepset? 4. I have freckles... would makeup even look good on me??? 5. How do I shape my eyebrows? 6. Do I absolutely HAVE to use makeup remover for eyeshadow, eyeliner, or foundation/concealer? 7. Anything else you want to add because I can assure you that no tip will be a waste of typing time.
@Sxtdul

+Jensen Payne I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ERMAGAWDDD okay i can't answer all of them but hope this helps 1. fake eyelashes or many coats of mascara 2. don't think it matters if you have freckles... should still look fine 5. SHAVE THEM EYEBROWS. and no don't shave them right off, goodness me! just shave them constantly whenever they start growing haywire to a shape that you want 6. concealer and foundation is a must with makeup remover. eye make up maybe not so much. you could use those liquid removers (can't remember what they;re called sorry!)

This is SO good! I've been looking for ages for info on how to do makeup for my hooded eyes but EVERYTHING is about "fixing", "correcting" and making them look more "open" or like "normal" eyes (in other words more Caucasian!). Well, I have no problem seeing so my eyes are open enough for me- and as it happens they are considered one of my best features, by me and others! It makes me a bit sad that there's this fashion in Asian countries for women to use those uncomfortable-looking tapes and glues, and even surgeries, to change eyes that are already so beautiful! I might be biased because I have the same eye-type (although I'm white) but I personally think Asian women have more beautiful eyes that anyone, and monolid eyes especially are so striking; I think they look lovely!

@lenangjf
9 жыл бұрын
+Susan Clare slight correction that I hope you don't mind. I'm Asian and the beauty standard here is not to look more Caucasian, but rather, just making our features bigger overall and stand out. Otherwise some will be getting a different type of eye surgery, such as making our eyes more deep set. I guess it's because Asian features are typically plain so to a lot of us it's not good enough. Also, I thank you for showing love to Asian monolids, because I do have them too and I never appreciated this feature enough. Your comment made me feel better that beauty can be so diversified yet be so astonishingly stunning at the same time :)

Beautiful eyeshadow. Always love your techniques! One advice - don't pat on MUFE HD powder. Under flash photography, it will show terrible white patches. And don't put too much in certain areas like around the eyes. I learned my lesson. Best way to apply the HD powder is with a kabuki brush and bluff small amount on face using circular notion. This is the only way that works for me if I'm taking flash photography in a club or restaurant with dim lighting.

yea.. i know.. i actually found a method by putting concealer, foundation, powder, and eye primer before putting on makeup.. and i just put a lot of black shadow using my new bh palette and it stays under my eyes for as long as 8-10 hours! I used this method for a formal event I went to and no smudges at all! I just balance out the amount of shadow i put on top to my bottom..works like a charm! And non of these are waterproof..i think..Thanks for your suggestion though!
